Looking American, where it matters unless your name is Matthew Centrowitz Jr.

Some of your reactions are strange to me. When I saw taht she won the BAA road mile I looked the pictures and was not that familiar with her, but even though her name is Martinez I just assumed she was an American, which was correct.
To those of you claiming I would feel differently, I live in the north where we certainly have our fair share of dumba sses, but I think we have less than most of the country.
To answer the other dummy's accusation, if I saw this woman in the street I don't try to guess where they are from, I don't even think about it, it doesn't matter to me. I live in Michigan and when I see a black person in public I don't assume that they are from Detroit or from Africa. They are likely from right there! Again, the difference between you and me.

Uhh, this is Southern California. We have LOTS of people like that. Leo would fit right in and was real popular with the fans at Carlsbad.
Mary who?
I never said the wasn't the case, nor did I mention her "fitting in" anywhere. I would make my same original point about Leo - he's clearly of Hispanic origin.

Based on her features and skin tone, yes you can draw conclusions on her race.
Hispanic or Latino is not a "race". And when you see someone with light skin do you say "Hey, that person is of Northern European origin".
In Southern Cal half the people walking around look like Brenda Martinez. No one notices or cares.

Thank you. I'm not sure why people on here have a problem admitting that. Like it's taboo to say it. She is SMOKING hot though.
People are having trouble understanding why it matters or why it warrants pointing out.
re if you saw someone of her origin walking down the street, you would say 'Look at that Rancho Cucamonga, Californian!'
Though, If I saw you walking on the street I would certainly be able to say, "Look at that idiot!"

Obviously not, because they continue to question it.
Regardless, I didn't bring it up. I was defending another poster who claimed she was Mexican, and then was attacked by another poster who said she was "Californian." Clearly she's American, but she's also of Latin American origin. But you're absolutely right, it doesn't matter. I just got sucked up in the discussion. But i'm dropping it now.
Thank you, RUK. She really does look like a lock for Worlds, if she decides to run 1500. Rowbury hasn't looked quite at this level in years. Not sure if Barringer ever has, medal notwithstanding. Only the one who keeps falling over should beat her, if she hasn't done permanent damage to her psyche.

Yeah, because you know what I look like. Fool.

And I still fail to see how appreciating her ethnicity makes me an idiot.
Mad props to Brenda! She's unstoppable once she finds that extra gear most women don't have!

All top 3 ran faster last year than Brenda did at Mt Sac.
Try again.
Given than Jenny is the defending world champ, all 4 of them can get to go (if Mary Cain [or Alice] doesn't knock one of them off).

I have absolutely NO Idea what an "American" looks like, seeing as how the US is an extremely diverse country full of a lot of different types of Americans.
I wouldn't even know how to begin to describe what an American looks like.

Did you just compare their best times from last year with Brenda's 4/19 unrabbited solo performance? If so, why?
BTW, she calls herself Mexican in this flotrack interview.

^NICE. Feel free to unearth an old interview of mine any time you wish.
Not like Brenda Martinez.
Well no one asked you so it doesnt matter.

Your short term memory fails you. Rowbury was 1/2 second off a bronze medal in London. Ranked #1 in the USA and 5th in the world. Please explain how Rowbury has not benn "quite at this level in years".
It is April. Great that she has the standard. She has been racing a lot and is obviously race sharp. I repeat, it is April!
Rowbury and Uceny will show up at USA's. Simpson is guaranteed a spot. Thanks to her win in Daegu, we get 4 spots In Moscow.
Martinez has a shot at making the team. I would by no means call her a lock.
Half a page about the result, 2 and half about race
