I'm very impressed with Jenkins. He ran an awesome race and would have been closer to the front without the collisions that caused him to lose some momentum.
I'm interested to see how he does in the outdoor meets.

In 2011 he was the only true freshman to make the ncaa meet in the 1500
He won the NH XC state championships his senior year in a course record time and won the 1600m state championships. As mentioned his training load was not extensive. Look for him to keep improving. Major talent here.

Anyone else see Jenkins pull on Erassa's singlet with 200 to go? Dirty.
Doods! Grab=DQ. That's the end of the argument.
He ran a great race but, just like in the NFL, if you grab and hold the officials have to recognize that as impeding no matter how much bumping was caused by other runners. I saw it in real time and there is no way that an official could not have raised his flag.

Erassa impeded Jenkins.

Life is super complicated so when easy stuff shows up you should just take it and move on: [bold]grab=impeding[/bold]

Not if the grab is not the first step in the process, especially if an earlier step in the process involved a move by the grabbe that caused the problems.
Absolutely disgusting- the official should be ashamed. Incidental contact that did not change the outcome of the race- ridiculous
He would have been in the clear if he didn't beat the other two guys involved I think. If Jenkins was fourth he'd be an All American right now.
They've got to be kidding with that DQ.
Ok State protested that Jenkins should be DQ’d. Without the protest from Dave Smith, nothing is done by the officials and the results would’ve been unchanged. A true shame.
A protest doesn't permit the officials to make stupid decisions.

exactly, although I still think the protest showed poor form from whoever filed it (heard OK state). Jenkins wasn't even the one who caused the contact. Looked to me like he just reflexively reached out with his hand to steady himself.
I hate to say this, but it sounds like a case of the big time school with the influential coach screwing over the small school athlete just because they can. If Jenkins ran for Oregon or Wisconsin he would not have been DQ'd. Disgraceful.

Unfortunately this could not be any more accurate. This is a sport that's not supposed to be about BS stuff like this. A race answers the question "who is the fastest?" Eric Jenkins was CLEARLY the 2nd fastest kid in the race. For Dave Smith to protest that is really a shame, and a cowardly act of trying to bully the small schools.
So this was the most blatant foul in the meeet? (only person disqualified for impeding?) I don't think so. Absolutely did not change the outcome or placings in the race. Just some official feeling they have to dq someone, or their weekend wasn't complete. Sad.
I agree there's no way Jenkins should've been dq'd, he was simply reacting to other runners bunching up, mainly Kemoi getting too close to erassa.
But on the subject of the most blatant foul of the meet, I'm not so sure of what happened when Kemoi dropped the baton in the DMR after watching a replay.
A lap or two before, Kemoi and Callahan bump arms when running too close, fast forward a couple of laps and whoever comes up to pass Kemoi & Callahan causes contact, that Kemoi and Callahan react to, but when Kemoi drops the baton, it's clear that Callahan knocks it out of his hand. I'm not sure if it was intentional or not but with the contact between the two a lap or two earlier, it makes me wonder.
Check it out and see for yourself.

Agreed.
Dave Smith was the protester? That is hard to believe? Why?
Oh wait....I know....he was an American Kid!
Here is a copy of the protest filed by OK State:

This was posted up next to the results on the wall at the meet.
“With about 180m to go a runner from Northeastern grabbed the jersey of OSU runner Kirubel Erassa from behind and pulled him off the track. This is an obstruction and the Northeastern runner should be disqualified.”
Lost respect for Dave Smith. What a load of s**t. Yes, Jenkins did incidently grab the jersey for a moment, but in the heat of the race after being bumped and pushed himself it was a non-issue. If he wanted to file a protest, it should have been against Campbell pushing Jenkins...but he couldn't do that in Arkansas given who Campbell runs for...so he chose the easier target. Non-sense and didn't change the race outcome. Jenkins after being pushed 2x still managed to accelerage. If Erassa was in such good shape he would have done the same. Nonsense.
I watched the meet online today and thought there were SEVERAL incidents in relays and the breaks in the 400s WAY MORE worthy of a DQ in comparison to the Jenkins foul.
I'm not sure if I'm more disappointed in Dave Smith for begging for the foul, or the idiot officials who gave it to him after saying they reviewed the video...very weak! This reminds me of a call in the end zone of the Packers vs Seahawks last fall!
Was the Arkansas runner in the 3k the same guy who dropped the baton in the DMR after punching a guy who bumped him? That dude should have been DQd for sure in the DMR, but karma is a wonderful thing.
