I was there and got my pic with her after. She was so humble and flattered. She was beaming after the race and on her phone telling the news. I told Alberto who was next to us "you've got a once in a lifetime runner here, she will be great." To which he smiled and said, "We'll see, we're taking one race at a time."

Is she the one being trained by Alberto Salazar?
No, that is a different Mary Cain, its a common name.
How can she set the high school record when she is a professional runner?
She will destroy in an Oregon uniform in 2 years.
4:11 1500 does not equal 4:28 mile. More like 4:32.
T&FN will apparently recognize it as an overall High School Record (but not a HS Indoor Record, since it's on an oversized track):

Is that really true? That's 21 seconds for 109(?) Meters. Isn't 5:20 mile pace 20 secs per 100m?
Yawn, Zola budd ran 15;01 for 5000m at the same age.
Nope, she was 17 not 16. Nice try.
Test her.
And her PR is only 12 sec lower than that. So, yeah, yawn.
Can anyone provide some race details - i.e., rabbit(s), splits, leaders ?
video? pics?
Agreed. I've always been amazed more HS girls don't run sub 10 for 3200. You'd think the number of boys running sub 9 now sub 10 is a decent equivalent.
I guess the depth and talent of the boys is just that much more superior.
Rabbit made it to about 1200m, I believe I heard 1 mile was reached in 4:57, so Cain picked it up considerably.

Which it should be considering boys have had the opportunity to compete for much longer. However the girls marks and depth are improving more rapidly.

Exactly. If she just ran all-out to get that 4:11, there is no way she would hold that pace for 109 more meters.
Go ahead and plug it into the mcmillan calculator
http://www.mcmillanrunning.com/index.php/calcUsage/calculateIt says 4:11 1500 = 4:32.5 mile.
McMillan's wrong.
4:11 pace is about 16.7 per 100. Throw in another 109m in the middle of that, it's not gonna be 19 seconds. 18, maybe. 4:29.
The tried and true conversion for 1500 to mile has been to multiply the 1500 by 1.08. It's been that way for ages.
4:11.01 = 4:31.1
