No chance 800m is his top distance
what is your deal? google marcin - do you dispute he has run what he ran for 100? You think symmonds is like 1.5s slower over 100m than that guy?
You need to realize that 11.0 is nothing for even a world-class mid-d runner.
Lewandowski has been discussed extensively already on this board in other threads.
You are late to the party, my friend!
Did El G make a run at the record? What was a he, a 3:26/ 1:44 guy?
I just realized that Bad Wiggins is the alter ego of Ventolin.

Where are the threads? I can't find him.
He did run 10.64 the same year he took 4th at the junior world championships. What was the verdict of these discussions? Did he train to use blocks for a while or something?
what does the 100m have to do with a thread on the 1k wr?
rudisha can break it. kaki can run 2:12. symmonds 2:14. 2:13.9 is wohlhuter's greatest performance.
Only verbally

not likely.
He is a 400/800 guy not an 800/1500 guy.
not sure if he has the over distance ability to get it. if he did he sure as hell wouldn't shatter it.
Rudisha could have smashed it in London by jogging a 200. 100% chance he can break that record.
Nick? Doubt it but wouldn't say zero percent chance.

if there was a 100% chance he could break it he would have taken a shot at it
i don't think you realize how good noah ngeny was.
3:43 over distance ability and likely 1:41 high ability at 800.
rudisha is a second better over 800 but he'd have trouble breaking 3:40 for 1500m
if ventolin sees this he should chime in
i don't think rudisha would break it, and he sure as hell would do it easily as you suggest
Symmonds can break the American record. He should. He probably just hasn't put a priority on it, or, prior to this past year, he didn't think he could do it.
And to those posters arguing that he can't do it because otherwise he would have tried, you should have a look at some of the other American track records on the books. There is no bigger BR fan than I, but there's a dozen guys - right now - let alone in the 35 years since he set them, who could take down all of his track records. (Although, I think the hour run might be a bit tough.)

not at his peak ( & more like a 1'43-flat )
this race is useful indicator
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTNBLDrkJH8if you take his opening 400 ( to eliminate flying start ) & composite best 600 in remainder of race, you get
~ high-2'14 !!!

you're right
he'd have a hard time breaking it
1'40.9 with
3'40.0 ->2'13.5
3'37.5 ->2'12.9
3'35.0 ->2'12.3
caveat though is that his endurance background doesn't have to extend all the way to 1500 to threaten it
( exagerated analogy is that a 5k runner running a 10k for the 1st time seriously doesn't need to develop a M background or clocking for his 10k attempt )
i do see a low 2'12 for him

anaerobic fan wrote:Nick managed to run 1:42.95 last year while setting PRs @400 (47.45) and 1500 (3:36)
that 47.45 i believe was in ireland & obviously he was in heavy training
it wasn't a great race by him from comments on the board & i'm sure he'd be more like mid-46/47-flat at his 1'42.9 peak & running ideal 400
1'42.9 with
47.00 ->2'12.3 , 3'28.1
46.75 ->2'12.5 , 3'29.0
46.50 ->2'12.7 , 3'29.8
now, he has decent 1500 of 3'36 but obviously his endurance doesn't extend "perfectly" to 1500 ( otherwise he'd have current sub-3'30pb ) as he trains only for 800 & not 800/1500
so, he'd be somewhat shy of those 1ks, but 1k isn't really that far from 800, so i do think around the
2'13.0 - 2'13.5
is possible for him currently
he certainly has enough leeway to break wohl's 2'13.9
check here if you want to try different estimates :
http://www.jundo.co.ukOp you are a complete idiot. Congrats on the dumbest thread of the year
Rudisha can and will break this world record.
Symmonds? Don't make me laugh.
I'd say Symmonds would struggle to break Wohlhuter's AR of 2:13.9.
Considering Kaki, who has better pbs at both 800 and 1500 than Symmonds, has had several attempts at the WR and only managed 2:13.62!
I don't think Symmonds will ever break 1:43 again. The London track was super fast and the race was a perfect one for those being dragged behind to super fast times. A bit like the Atlanta final, where very few of the field went on to run any faster.
I reckon Symmonds is a good racer at 800 and is now capable of 1:43 low-mid when needed. That isn't going to get him close to 2:12 unless he starts running sub 3:30 for 1500.
