yeah, when people have trust in their social institutions they're quite willing to put money into them.
many of these countries have free healthcare and education, etc., that they pay for via taxes of 40-50%. and it works really well for them.
in america we just scream 'commies' and pretend like we're better.

Go read Guns, Germs and Steel so you might learn why wealthy countries are wealthy and why poor countries are poor.
Having visited about 60% of them I would live in NZ in a heartbeat. Simply beautiful and modern, often hard to find the mix.
