Cuba, Mexico... same difference, right? ;-)
Cuba, Mexico... same difference, right? ;-)
No diff. In Latin America, Spain, Portugal everyone is La Raza.
No....the Bekeles are signing in Hansons.
Cuba is Caribbean.
Mexico is not.
Night an day.
Unless the USA and Canada are the same difference, right?
Rupp improved greatly because of him being teammates with Farah. Without Farah training with Salazar, Farah would not have won Gold in London, but Rupp would not have won a medal at all.
The enemy of your enemy is your best friend.
I would see some challenges for the Bekeles though. Farah came over from the UK, that's not much of a change, I am sure he was used to ice baths (now cyrosauna), treadmills (now underwater/alter-g), etc. But Bekele lives in Ethiopia and trains outside, 365.

Huh?
Jos Hermens asked Alberto about this in hopes of preventing Kenenisa from being reduced or suspended by NIKE after his year off from injury.
Kenenisa could win more world's gold, not impossible. He's as good as any distance man ever, I can't count his career as over.
I don't see any new WR runs for him though.
Looking forward to the '13 season.
I'd love to see Rupp beat Mo (and Kenenisa) for a 10 or 5 gold.
If Al is gonna bring someone in, why not a rising star like teen sensation Koech from Kenya?
The exciting thing about Mo and Rupp when they began to train together, they were HUNGRY!
Dude I live in Mexico, not Carribean where I am.
Once more, casual racism pops up here amongst the trolls.
You gotta admit, allgery meds can mask EPO and steroids when applied correctly!
When Farah joined the group, he was not nearly as accomplished as K. Bekele. Bekele has been on everyone's radar as the man to beat for many years. Perhaps Rupp felt less threatened by Farah (a 27:28/12:57 guy at the time http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mo_Farah) than GOAT Bekele (26:17/12:37)?
Does anyone know the current list of athletes that are training under Salazar? Obviously Rupp, Farah, Ritz. Who else has snuck in there recently?

http://www.runnersworld.com/rt-columns/2012-year-reviewWhy would it bother you to have your coach coaching runners from Ethiopia and not someone running for Britain? Mo Farah is one of those "guys" that you're trying to beat, he's what prevented the US from winning a Gold Medal in the 10000m at London!
It's called the risk/reward scale. It made sense to incorporate one Mo Farah, it does not make sense to incoroprate the Bekele Bros.
Bettering Mo while bettering Rupp obviously rewards Rupp while also risking his chances at beating Mo. But the risks outweigh the rewards because Mo is coming from a higher level than Rupp with more experience and knowledge of racing and training with "the east africans". That takes some of the hype/fear of east africans away for rupp and gives him some one to elevate with and to, gaining confidence all the while.
Bringing the Bekele brothers in is just trying to do the same thing, but if you believe in Salazar as obviously they do, than you risk making them even better and now you have just made 3 of the worlds best runners (previously a few notches ahead of Rupp) even better so the potential risks outweigh the rewards at that point.
Basically Mo was enough.
then rupp is nothing more than a coward. a real competitor wouldn't rely on his opposition having inferior training and resources.

Why not? I'd take pride in beating someone because I had better training. Wouldn't you?
Big deal. It's bunch of washed up old guys at the end of their careers trying to attract the last pay day. You see former great boxers, martial arts, sumo intentionally lose staged UFC or WWE in Las Vegas to make money for the last good fees of their dying careers and to get free travel of course. Bekeles are at the end of their careers.

Really? tariku is younger than rupp. And rupp is overrated.

So he is a coward for knowing that he has less talent than others and wants to use every legal advantage in training and coaching he can get to beat the people with more pure talent? He is a coward for admitting he isn't the most talented guy and there are people that can and will beat him if the field is perfectly level?
So why the hell do we have coaching and training then? Why not just make all forms of training illegal and make them sit on their asses all day until the race....then the most talented guy will always win instead of the guy who prepared best. Because who gives a crap about preparedness and hard work, right?
At least Salazar won't have to change the way Bekele holds his thumbs.
