Well, I'm at the park setting up, enjoying watching thousands of runners go by, it's beautiful! Not to throw anyone over the edge but looks like there are a lot more running a 26.2 in the park than just my group.

Sorry, but please post all updates in my OFFICIAL PLAN B MARATHON LR MB THREAD
I just got back from Central Park - it is exactly like the marathon - everyone out in their national gear and running. Tens of thousands of people.
I even saw Mary W running - she was pleased that so many were out having a good day in the park.

cmon give us serious updates
Just got back from the park.
Thousands of runner out! Holy crap! I didnt know about this thread until now.
A lot of people running and many raising money for Sandy victims...
selfish and unsympathetic clowns I saw this posted under the article... I think it sums it up nicely.
Nothing wrong with a run in the park that didn't take up any resources or inconvenience anyone. Kudos on this fine creation by all who showed up. This is a fine example of a co-creation that expresses freedom, love of running, charity, and keeping it simple. To me, the problem with the NYC marathon is that it has become an expensive, overblown breast with a purpose of only feeding the city. I'll take the simple, cheaper marathons that begin and end in the same place. Where I can walk to my car or 80.00 hotel afterwards. Where if its canceled I'm only out 80-100.00. Congrats to all of these runners for bringing it back to basics. The organizers have their head on straight and represent the heart of running.
I just closed my checking, savings, and credit card accounts at ING Direct and Capital One because of Mary Wittenberg
Do it NOW!
Why do that? CapitalOne is one of the only credit cards that don't charge you fees for using your card overseas. I love my card. Plus, it's just overkill.
and the Daily News is what?

Closing any credit card account will actually lower your credit rating and FICO score, which hurts your chances of obtaining credit in the future. Better to just stop using the card and keep the account open.
Well, this turned out to be quite the magical day for everyone at the park. There was at least a 15k turnout throughout the day and a lot of people went for the 26.2... This was nothing but positive and everyone was moved by the mass gathering. I can't imagine that any runner or running fan could actually think this was a bad idea. If you weren't there, you missed out on a once in a lifetime. My favorite part was hearing people yell out the hypothetical locations ("you just got onto first ave!") and the masses that came out to cheer and give water. I think this actually saved the foreigners' interest in coming back to do this, since they got screwed the most by the cancellation. I love running!!!
Thanks everyone for coming out!
I'm not there, but thank you for putting on the event!
I'm nothing but a d*ck, but that article almost brought tears to my eyes.
I may repeat myself, but you're REALLY a true hero. Thanks for what you've done for the planet's running community!
And now I don't hate New Yorkers that much anymore either.
keep in mind this wasnt the only guy who planned this thing. he was a very small (but very appreciated) portion of the runners there. there was also the ALS society and a bunch of other people who did it as well. This isnt a singular effort by Plan B Coach but a collective effort by thousands of people alike, lets not forget about them.

all you selfish a-holes should have gone to staten island and volunteered.
I hate runners.
That's right, while I was setting up this morning there was a great general gathering going on and other groups were doing the same as ours. This was much bigger than me, but that's exactly what it was meant to be... about running and how it connects people. I wanted to run so badly all day because the atmosphere was very electric, but all I saw when I looked around were that others that also weren't running were doing what I was, creating the support and positive environment. There was an old lady watching her son run and she came by and started filling cups and throwing out trash and handing out food and cheering... Everyone was excited... it doesn't get much better than that.
Compare this to the NY Post drama and the runners ultimately becoming the scapegoat... that was driven by hype and media frenzy. The 15k+ runner gathering-turned-marathon experience was completely spontaneous and organic today. It was not fabricated and driven by political views. There was a guy who took the bus from NJ today, he lived in Seaside and his home was destroyed. He wanted to come to the city and go for a run at the park because he was so upset it was cancelled even though everyone agreed it was a bad idea to have it go on in the midst of this disaster. This guy was ecstatic that everyone was there and he was doing what he loved, he was crying! I think you get the point.
Did YOU watch the pro sports held this weekend? Look around you. These are amateur athletes and you're going to chastise them for following their sport?!
