Fantastic run Mike!
Fantastic run Mike!
I'm sure this guy is a hard worker, a good runner, and a good guy. I wonder though, is there ever a point where the race is too long? I mean, where it gets excessive...?

That's all up to you..."excessive" is purely an individual call

I wonder if someone came forward and said they saw him doping if you guys would be all over his stuff? All is seems to take is an accusation and good performance times.
That said, great year Mike. Congrats.
You sir, are what honorable men refer to as a party pooper.
I wonder if he has any good chafing stories? I bet he's a riot at parties...
Dean K could easily beat this - if he wanted to. I guess he is glad to let someone else steal his spotlight for a year or so.

I can back up what Annette said about doping controls. When I finished 23rd in the IAU 100K I also had to give a sample. Like Annette, I had a terrible time giving a large enough sample.
Yep, same for me after winning the Commanders Cup.
Mike averaged 8:22/mile and Connie averaged 9:40/mile, for 24 hours.

Jurek won the Western States 100 seven years in a row.
I wouldn't call him overrated. I'd call him "Mr. Jurek"!
He won with shallow competition. If Morton hadn't join the Army, and all the Krupickas, Kilians, Roes, Olsons were around back then Jurek would have stayed with just 1 WS 100 win...Barely.

Those are each only one guy. Putting an "s" on the end of their name, does not make this a larger crowd.

Jim Garcia. Now that was a great race.
I'd actually love to see what Bekele could do in an Ultra.
The 172.45 mile AR works out to about 8:21/mile pace for an entire day. Insane. The Kouros track WR of 188.59 miles translates to 7:38/mile pace. Double insane.
Has Michael Wardian ever done a 24 hour race?
What does that work out to pace per mile?

He did in 2001 but I don't believe he finished. I'm not sure whether he's done any others, but I remember his being at that one.
This guy must be as good as Dean Karnazes!

This has to win for the dumbest quote on this thread.
This is like saying "Well, if Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Larry Bird, Patrick Ewing, Hakeem, Shaq, Kobe, Dr. J and others were around back then, Bill Russell would have stayed with just 1 NBA Championship...Barely". Stop living in the ESPN/Sports Talk Radio world of comparing generations. He competed against the best of his generation and won, bottom line. That's it. Case closed.
The level of talent in Jordan's prime was much higher than it is today with the exception of Kobe Bryant. Jordan, Pippen, Bird, Magic, Shaq, Barkley, Grant, Paxton, Rodman, Kerr, The Mailman, Robinson, Thomas, Kemp...You just got owned.

Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
