Yea sorry about that, I didn't read through the article thoroughly enough.

Kent is awful (women especially).
Cd guan was great steeplechaser, but isn't a good coach at all.
I'd LOVE to be coached by KD. He's a good man and has the right perspective. Plus he's a stud on the track. Don't know what's not to like for anyone involved.

Maybe he is a nice guy. Yes, he's a stud on the track. But he has virtually no coaching experience and no proven success over 800m. Crogan has had minimal success at Kent with men and zero success with women. KD will be coaching women long distance, not just the 800m.
For Ohio State to not lose top long distance talent to the rest of the Big 10 will be hard. These girls aren't going to care he was an Olympian in am event outside of their own. Amd with the success of Toledo in their own state at distance and cross country they will continue to not be the best program in their own state.
Like I said, I would bet Hadsell is not losing a minute of sleep over this hire.
And I'm certain that Karen Dennis isn't losing sleep over a distance oriented program such as Toledo. She has bigger fish to fry in defending the Big 10 title and continuing to move up the NCAA list. As long as they win or contend for the conference title in track then the CC results will continue to be overlooked.
Like it or not, in the current scheme at OSU, any distance points they get are gravy since the bulk of the available points in a meet are from the sprints/hurdles/jumps category.
Disclaimer: this isn't me saying I agree with the scheme, but Karen would hardly be the first coach to go this route. In her defense, the distance crew had a decent amount of money invested over the past few years with little yield come track.
What's equally common is head coaches claiming to have a "well-rounded" program that is basically average in everything. That doesn't get you into the top 3, much less titles.
There are only a couple non-distance head coaches and they're better in the Big 10 (OSU, Nebraska, Minn) on the women's side as a result come track season.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
