Lolo seems pissed. Nearly in tears this morning on the Today's show
I am sick of Lolo. Her 15 minutes are over. She was just on the Today show crying and whining that the "critics" are ripping her apart, she is the AR holder, 2x world champion, etc. Did she know this is what happens when you "put yourself out there" into the media spotlight? When you fail you will be ripped apart and people will want interviews about what went wrong. She needs be quiet.
NBCs endless hype machine is the problem. Every four years they pick about 10 athletes to hype endlessly. They build them up so much in the public eye that if they don't win a gold medal, they seem like an epic failure. Of course, a few of them don't win a gold medal and suffer for it.
I have a hard time blaming the athletes.
it isn't just NBC. She's been in several media outlets. Of course NBC is the one putting her sob story out everywhere now, but I hope they are the only ones. It's like she wanted to put her face and words onto anything that would have her, and now that she did not achieve her goal they'll all be wondering what happened. She should have thought about that beforehand.
I did feel sort of bad for her before this Today show interview, but then she blew it.
They don't hand out medals based on what you've done in the past. All of the media darlings seem to have this problem- i.e. Jordyn Weiber, Mckayla Maroney, and now Lolo. The commentators all seem to say the same thing "she DESERVED that medal, its so hard to watch it be taken away from her!" ... all of these people "deserve" medals for their hard work and sacrifice over their careers. Unfortunately only 3 people actually earn them.

You need to be quiet. T&F needs more athletes like her, not less.
I don't have any problem with her putting herself out there. But she should have realized before she did that whatever she did in the olympics, gold medal or DFL, there would be a lot of hype about it afterward.
I'm sure she was dead set on getting a medal but she can't rely on past success to carry her to that medal. It's about who shows up on that day. It's not just her, I think there have been several athletes who seem to be relying on what they've done before.
She actually ran her best race of the season yesterday and she surprised me to get 4th. It just so happened that she was in the best hurdle race ever. Nothing to be ashamed of, I get that she's disappointed, but she has said it before and the other women in the race have too: Nothing is guaranteed in the hurdles.
Harper should be bitter. She's the defending gold medalist, she beats Lolo again here, and yet still all anyone can talk about is Lolo. What about the American who was trying to defend her gold? Does that not warrant any attention?
We all know why, too: it's because Lolo is attractive.

I need to see nude photographs of all of them before i can really comment on this case.
I doubt Tebow will have any interest now in a fourth place finisher - sad but true.

Why wouldn't he? He's barely a 5th string NFL quarterback.
My brothers...let us not argue amongst ourselves. Yea, I say to you, Lolo is blessed with hotness. The End.

4th in the Olympics is no substance? Best in the world until the last hurdle in 2008 all style? She is WAYYYY overhyped but she is still a damn good runner.
that was no where near the last hurdle in 08
All the media attention brought her sponsors to her. One ad blitz had 30 cameras on her (red bull?). She's on TV saying she's a virgin. Now she blames the media.
Well, the NYT piece wasn't fair, she is a serious runner and has the AR and I think she did great coming back this year.
But gawd the claws are out.
All three of these ladies aren't being advised well, what are their managers doing? They need coaching other than from their coaches

Harper and Wells will never be as popular as Lolo because they are bitter bitches. No one likes them.
I thought both of them were WAY to excited for 2nd and 3rd place. Especially Harper, the defending Olympic champ. She must have conceded the race to the Aussie before the gun even went off. I think she was there to ONLY beat Lolo and not race for the win.
Classless and she deserves no media attention.
Laurie is Hot.
Olympic T&F medal winners do not make enough in prize money to pay the rent. They have to get endorsements and sponsorships if they want to get a significant financial reward for their accomplishments. Winning a medal will get you some sponsorships and endorsements, but, for US athletes especially, winning a medal alone will not get you the kind of money that will make you independently wealthy. Wells and Harper are going to have to get jobs when their T&F days come to a close. They have not done anything to put themselves out to the public. They have boring personalities. They give the usual pro-athlete sound bites in post race interviews. LoLo Jones has put herself out there personally and worked hard to market herself. She is very funny and has a great twitter feed. She is attractive and sounds like an interesting person in interviews, not just an athlete. LoLo will have enough money to be independently wealthy after the Olympics, regardless of the outcome. Wells and Harper think that they are entitled to the same attention and money just because they got medals. It doesn't work that way. They can be bitter about LoLo all day, but it doesn't change the fact that podium placement is not a guaranty of marketability.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
