When did NBC air the Men's 10K?
You people are funny. Do you really think NBC or the IOC cares what you think? NBC is making huge $$ on selling ads during the Olympics. Those companies that buy the ads are happy since they are part of the Games. The IOC will not care since they get a huge paycheck from NBC.
And if by chance the IOC does call NBC on the carpet about the crap coverage they have provided the USA, NBC will throw more money at they, charging more for ads, which means the companies will raise prices to pay for these ads.
So in the end - we get shit coverage, pay more for products and the IOC and NBC get rich
coverage has been terrible
So far to me this is the greatest Olympic Coverage I've seen in my lifetime. They are actually showing everything I want to watch. They announced they were going to show the 10,000 live on Saturday. I was skeptical. They showed it. They showed the 1500 semi's and later that night after midnight they showed the steeple in its entirety.
I think NBC is doing the best job they can in the circumstances. The pay for view package in Barcelona you had to pay extra for was the best option for track nuts but they lost their ass on that.
People ought to quit bitching. We saw a live Olympic 10,000. And knew when it was going to be shown and didn't have to sit through 2 hours of other sports.

NBC did the same in 2004 and 2008, so there's nothing new there.
I think we have every right to bitch. It comes down to that we want to see a sporting event and NBC wants to broadcast a reality show. The magic of the internet allows us to see that there is another way to do it besides what NBC does. And for the record, NBC is not making a boatload of money, they *might* break even (it was expected they'd take a loss).
As far as appealing to the IOC for action, good luck. The Holy See is generally more responsive to public opinion than they are.
After having watched both NBC and the BBC cast, I am floored at how far superior the BBC is. It is like watching 2 different events, a night and day difference. I want to move to england just for the superior tv broadcast lol, at least for olympic years
You have to admit, there is a certain irony in giving the broadcast rights for the Olympics - a franchise predicated to extolling and rewarding dedication and achievement - to a network that seems committed to dumbing down and disconnecting it's overall viewing audience.

The aired it when it happened.
On television, yes, but live streaming has been excellent. Granted, sometimes it slows down, especially during peak traffic. However, today I had a leisurely afternoon watching the US-Canada soccer match on TV, while watching the finals of the men's 400 hurdles, women's steeplechase, and men's 400 online, without any buffering at all--all for free (that is, no marginal increase in my cable bill).

They could well lose their right to broadcast future Olympics. Foreign media is picking up on the outrage. While 2 million people watched the 100 live around the world on network TV there were non in America. And NBC did not even mention the steeple chase. Lets petition the broadcasting commission to revoke NBC's broadcasting rights.

Are you kidding me? NBC is showing multiple streams of multiple events LIVE! The BBC is doing a fine job, but so is NBC.
I would buy the idiotic NBC argument if the event was actually shown in prime time. They showed it at 11:15pm EST and 11:15PST for the respective coasts. How is that PRIME TIME?
It is not a weekday. it was a Sunday where a lot of people have historically treated the second game of a doubleheader(4:15pm) as a "national" game of sorts. So it's not exactly a ratings black hole time slot. Do you think more people wouldnt have watched it live at 5pm compared to 11:15pm on a Sunday
As far as the stream. Some of us would like to watch it on a big screen in HD. Which means, if the NBC stream was freezing(even for those who had good bandwidth), you had to go to the pirated streams. The HD may look decent on a laptop, but the compresson will show on a big screen. the Marquee event deserves marquee broadcast.
Oh, and after all that delay, NBC didn't even bother to interview any of hte US runners. Total time: SEVEN MINUTES
Wrong.

I think this is the answer right here. NBC is broadcasting the Olympics as a television show, where we are looking for a sporting event. I don't expect it to change, but don't expect me to like it. I've been watching just about everything online, but after having trouble with the NBC streams I have moved over to the BBC and agree that they are much better. I was floored when the BBC's lead in to the women's 400m final was not an interview or human interest story, but instead an simplistic explanation of the contributions of the aerobic and anaerobic energy systems in the race explained by an English Bill Nye sort of character. It wasn't too complicated of an explanation, but it addressed the science of the event. Pretty sweet. And it was accessible to someone who is not as much of an expert as us letsrun experts. We get human interest pieces and broadcasters riding around in James Bonds' car.
A couple other things to think about: first, to those saying that we shouldn't be dissatisfied, my question is why not? Even if this is an improvement upon the past formats, this coverage is not living up to what technology could permit. Why should we not want that? Second, and I don't really know the answer to this question, are the niche track fans the only ones complaining? I know a couple of swimmers who have said the coverage is bad and well, when else is swimming ever covered in any capacity at all? What do they compare it to? At the same time, I don't know enough swimmers to say that the swimming community is complaining. I am no expert on gymnastics, but the coverage there seems incomplete to me as well. Coverage of the trials seemed much better and I know nothing about gymnastics.
Where are people finding these streams? I have cable but I guess I dont have the upgraded cable so they will not allow me to watch the full replay of the 10k at nbc.com. I tried BBC and it was "banned" in my area. Which sight do you all use for the distance races? I want to watch the 1500, and 5000m finals and apparently they wont be televised.
Everyone complaining should listen to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KpUNA2nutbk

Use a vpn. Even the apple store has one. really easy to use:)
As a cord cutter, I'm way pissed off that I can't see anything other than whatever is offered on NBC's main channel. I not only don't have access to the live streaming - but do you know that I can't even watch replays until 48 hours after the event? I would gladly pay a modest fee to access the web feed, but that's not an option.
Sure there are other options, like using a UK proxy, but what f*cked-up world are we living in where I have to do that.
Every time I hear an NBC exec say "any event is available for viewing live online" and want to scream "for select individuals only!"
This is true but it isn't illegal to use a vpn. Maybe immoral but so is what they are doing.. Look no further than the following article to show that nbc is getting rightfully crushed:)
