Shalane 10th - Kara 11th
Shalane 10th - Kara 11th
Shalane in 9th. I was really hoping for better but good on her. She is wiped out.
Kara held on for 11. I really thought she was gone.
These Ethiopians are hot!
Goucher 11th, Kim Smith 15th.

If dibaba takes the 5000 an an Ethiopian wins the 1500, they will sweep the distance races

seriously - kenya just keeps losing.
Everyone else is using drugs, but apparently they don't work for Kenyans. This puts them at a clear disadvantage.
Flanagan 10th 2:25:51, Goucher 11th 2:26:07.
That Ukrainian girl must have run the second half faster than anyone.

That's how racism starts - letting individuals govern our view of a whole people.

Or root for an American sprinter either?
Really sad that Davila is injured -- she would have ignored the surges, hit the splits with her metronomic precision, and given us an interesting gauge of the course conditions. Would have been instructive to see where she finished relative to Flanagan and Goucher.
Get well soon, Desi.

I'll wait for Hersch's article that rips shalane & goucher
I think that Kara looked pretty good at the finish. I didn't see the whole race(just about the last 10k), did she just make tactical errors and Shalane ran out of gas?

yup. stupid drugs. Although I think Gay is probably clean. I might suspend disbelief and root for him.

Shalane tried to stay with the leaders a lot longer than Kara did. This caused her to fade badly after pulling into 5th with a couple miles to go.
Of course it is a bit disappointing because I'd hoped Shalane or Kara could medal, but I think that was a very solid performance from them. The winner was an Olympic record, the times seemed pretty good considering the abysmal weather at the beginning and the tactical nature of the race.
Perhaps Shalane could have been top 5 had she been running for top 5 but she kept in medal contention and ran out of gas.
Kara surprised me as I'd thought she was long gone but hung tough back there.
Nothing to be ashamed of. Not their perfect day, but a pretty solid performance.
