I'm a believer. Can an American be thought of as a contender for a steeplechase medal?

how does this stack up on the European ancestry lists?

Had to throw that in....
For a relative newcomer to the event Jager's hurdling during the event was impressive.
He looked strong off the last turn.

2nd - behind Simon Vroemen 8.04.95
He looked fearless.
Did he earn a black LRC home page?
Fantastic run. I think he will go 8:03 in the OG qualifying heats. Not so sure about the finals. They tend to be tactical races.

i think we can say that with out being laughed at now.
Well, I should have gone out on that limb -- thought he would get the AR this year, was not sure of when. Aside from a heat, he has PRed every race [8:26/8:21/~8:16/8:06]. It would not be surprising to do it once more. And, with the Kenyans not selecting there best three, and the French being the French (on drug DQ, another being an idiot and raising the tension level, he might not only make the Final but has a chance of hitting the podium.
malmo certainly called the AR right.
JAGER IS MY HOMEBOY
The leaders went through 2k in a relatively slow 2.44, with jäger in the lead group he was probably about 2.45, this means he ran the last 2k in 5.41 or just a second outside 8 min pace so it isn't inconceivable that he could have a crack at 8 mins in the future. The slower pace most likely helped him on this occasion allowing him to be competitive and have people to run with the whole race.
For some reason, I feel like I accomplished something today.
I am proud to be an American steepler today.

If he doesn't fall and he really goes after it, this field gives him every chance to get the record, because there are not only the sub 7 and low 8 guys in the field who are too fast but also a number of 8:07-11 guys. I'll go out on a limb and say he breaks it with an 8:07.93. No risk, no reward.
just over a second off but right on the American record, not bad. The guy just looked so easy running those 8:17-26 races. I'm not going to jump on the bandwagon with the sub-8 predictions, at least not until I see this race, but this guy will not drop off the planet and never approach this time again like Huling and Lincoln did. Jager, if healthy, will run some commensurate flat times and drop this record close to 8 before he's done.

I actually spend 5.13. Close.
