That mountain bike video was incredible...thanks for that!

That's awesome.
this is the Uk version of Look at Mills. David Coleman again.
How about this gem from the late Don Whitman of the CBC: "If you're Canadian, you have to love Saturday nights in Georgia!" -- After the Canadian 4x100m team beat the U.S. at the 1996 Games.

The call in Cologne, Germany in 1989 of Said Aouita's sub 7:30 3,000 meter run.
"Look at the magic little Morrocan".
He was the first man under 7:30 at that distance, and it was a World Record.
I remember that it was a great call- "That magical little Morrocan." I also remember some girl writing a letter to T&F News saying what a bad announcer her was! Crazy and she had to put her name and hometown.
That guy was great. It was, Spine tingling, mind numbing excitement (or something like that).
"The clock is ticking away! 33! 34! 35! 36! He's SO SO CLOSE!!!........ Thirty-nine point three-six!!! He's actually, done it! 12:39.36! The world record is gone! That is incredible!"
Haile Gebrselassie 5000m world record in Helsinki, 1998. 12:39.36

http://search.yahoo.com/search?fr=mcafee&p=said+aoita+cologne+germany+1989Unfortunately,this clip does not contain the commentary during the Magical Little Moroccan's victory lap. I formerly had this race on VHS. Some quotes, as best as I can recall (British Accent of Course) were:
"so just a fraction over 60 seconds and you get into trouble"
"the pace setter; who is a useful runner in his own right"
"it's this man against the clock"
"Aouita is going to crack it wide open"
"the work record holder at 1,500 meters, 2,000 meters, 5,000 meters, now collects the world record for 3,000 meters"
"the world record has stood for 11 years but NO MORE!"
"he has smashed the world record to smithereens"
"yes ... I'd say that two and one half seconds is just about an eternity in Athletics"
"the record is phenomenal, the range is phenomenal, the name is Said Aouita"
Last couple minutes of solinsky 10K AR. Also, "Matt Withrow is 10 or 15 meters back now, he probably paid too high a price for that big move at two miles." And then he killed King Galen in the kick. I mean it's not track and did but still...

"nerve tingling blood racing excitement in Cologne
Goose Bumps Panetta 1987 WC, Rome....
Wow that Danny Hart mountain biking one was great. Thanks for sharing. Here is another non-T&F one (sorry). Gary Thorne is one the cream of the crop IMO:
"THAT WAS NERVE TINGLING, BLOOD RACING EXCITEMENT"
I don't know who calls it, but the announcer for the 5,000 meter final at the 64 games always gives me a chill when American Bob Schul catches Michel Jazy on the finishing straightaway, when just 100 meters earlier he had a seemingly insurmountable lead.
"Schul is gonna win it!"
He's got one Kenyan, he's got the other...
Dave Wottle 1972 800Mt Final, Munich
I suppose it's a mark of my age, but I think we need to note Jim McKay's great work covering the Olys for decades. I go back to 1972: his call of Frank Shorter's unexpected win, and his call of Dave Wottle's gold medal performance in the 800: "He's got the first Kenyan ! He's got the second Kenyan !"
And I am going a bit off topic if I recognize Dwight Stones in the Field events for more than two decades. Stones had the privledge of broadcasting the 1991 World Championship long jump battle between Carl Lewis and Mike Powell which, for my money, was the greatest competition in the history of all sport. Stones fully appreciated the moment and the two magnificent performances.
While I have the podium, let me give all of you a Stones preview in the upcoming Olys: at some point he will say the following while showing a replay of a high jump:
"Great hip height on that jump."
Those mountain biking guys were fired Up!
Al Michael's call of the 1984 Olympic 3000 meters.
On a different note. Tim Hutchings was commentating on some big city marathon and they cut from the leaders to show a couple who were running in full wedding outfits and were getting married at half way. Anyone else would have been forced to say how nice, or how romantic etc. Hutchings was not quite so impressed: 'just look at those idiots'!
