Trying to compile a list of the best calls by a TV commentator during a distance track event.
So far I've got ..
1. "Look at Mills! Look at Mills!" - Dick Bank NBC, '64 Olympic 10k (for which he was fired!)
2. "And there's one man's blazing speed that has torn this field asunder" - Ron Pickering BBC, '77 World Cup 1500
3. Not sure what they are saying, but the Finnish broadcast announcer(s) at the '71 European Championships 10k last lap duel between Juha Väätäinen and Jürgen Haase sound very excited indeed.
4. "Those blue eyes, like chips of ice" - David Coleman BBC, '80 Moscow Olympics 800 final
5. "The Europeans say that he hasn’t really been in a war yet, but this boy’s got utter belief in himself – and he’s inexperienced enough in many ways not to know how good the others are." - David Coleman BBC, '72 Munich Olympic 5k final
