Vig's overall coaching decisions with Webb and Andrews. I don't understand why you don't go after the races you know how to run. What a complete fail. Most of us considered Andrews to be a favorite and as close to a lock as you could be in the 800 and Webb should have raced the one event he knows best and holds the AR in. I mean when was the last time Webb actually raced no less a 5k but a couple rounds of 5ks...Same goes for Robby and the 1500.
I don't know if it was Andrew's or Vig's idea to switch to the 1500 but it was an arrogant decision in retrospect (IMO). Just because you almost won your conference title in college and had a pretty decent outing in your first career 1500 doesn't necessarily merit the decision to just jump ship from the 800. It's not like those 1500 guys that qualified where slouches. Choosing the 1500 over the 800 was basically giving all the 1500 runners the middle finger. I think they must have figured Robby wouldn't have been able to close fast enough after a 49 second lead the Jock was sure enough to lead them through....
In the end I'm left with far more questions with Vig's coaching decisions this last month than anything else. When you look on paper, our Men's distance teams are probably exactly what they should have been (although I admit had Robby been in the 800 I would have predicted Symmonds, Andrews, Jock).
800
Symmonds, KD, Solomon
1500
Manzano, Centrowitz, Wheating
5k
Rupp, Lagat, Lomong
10k
Rupp, Ritz, Teg
These results are hardly surprising outside of Solomon's 3rd place finish. Although I think it makes sense, Jock I think became burnt out after NCAA. So many HARD 800s in about a month's time. Solomon probably had a much more relaxed, evenly paced spring.
