At 37 nobody should be running that fast. Rupp will win the trials.
Fortunately the universe has little regard for what you think "should be".
What is is that Lagat is indeed running "that fast".
What will be is a Lagat win as usual.

Rupp is not going to beat Lagat in the finals, especially after the 10,000. Rupp will get a solid 2nd & will likely separate from 3rd quite a bit, but he cannot keep up with Lagat in a dead on sprint & that's just the way it is. Lagat can wait until the final 100 meters & still beat Rupp by a second.
Drugs are nice aren't they?
Chris Derrick will place 4th in his heat and then again in the finals! Mark my words.
Lagat is one of the GOAT. He is able to run fast at 37 because of this. BTW, I wonder what Lagat thinks whenever he hears Teg or Sol say they aren't young anymore, blah blah blah...?
Alan Webb in the news:
A BIRMINGHAM grandfather has denied being a “boy racer” after racking up a £60 speeding ticket despite an electronic sign indicating his driving was fine.
Alan Webb, aged 72, was caught going too fast in his small 1.2 Renault Clio.
He had been going at 38mph along Acocks Green’s 30mph Stockfield Road.

Webb was incapable of getting an A standard in his specialty event, and had to petition just to get into this event. He is completely incapable of running under 13:20 at the trials, and even more incapable of competing against Lagat, Rupp, and whoever else finds themselves in the top 10 of the final.
This is the greatest run-on sentence in the history of letsrun

Looks like you forgot to sigh.

However, why does the field only have 24/25 guys in the first place? If there are going to be 16 in the final, why can't there be at least 14, even 16 guys in each semi?
Agreed, there are almost few enough to skip the prelims. They should either make the standard stricter to make it to the trials and have only one race or allow more people in each prelim.
Derrick scratches from the 5k
Anyone have any idea what Webb's relationship is like with Rupp? It'd be nice if Rupp could pace him to the A standard.
It'd be even nicer if Teg would have run the race and done it for him.
Rupp is being selfish running the 5k. That is a real jerk of a move.

Teg has no class. He knew he wasn't going to run the 5K before he even entered it, and he took someone else's spot in the event. However, why does the field only have 24/25 guys in the first place? If there are going to be 16 in the final, why can't there be at least 14, even 16 guys in each semi?
We're not going to take anyone just out for a jog, except Webb.

Please remind me, what is the point of the trials? I always thought that the point of the trials was to pick a team for the Olympics. But when I read the comments on LR, it seems like people are more worried about whether the 26th or 27th fastest runner is going to get into the race. So I have to wonder, are we trying to pick an Olympic team, or are we trying to maximize participation or something like that?
The real question is, "Why didn't Trafeh choose to run the 10k?"
A 1:00:30 half marathoner is probably better suited in that direction.
Webb - All 7 stages of grief then deer in the headlights 12 second 100 at 3.7 k
anyone know why aaron braun is not running the 5000?
Right now Webb is barely a sub 4 minute miler, how is he going to get the 5k A standard in the trials?
