I'll throw you a bone, though--either Gay is a monster, or he has a very low threshold of pain (i.e. he describes discomfort as pain). Like James, I don't believe that anybody can run 9.7 while in pain, period--so he might not really be experiencing pain right now as he reports, only some discomfort.
This possibility is reinforced by the very fact that he is running this weekend. Who runs a competitive 100m while in pain, unless it is trials, Worlds, or Olympics, or a huge-money occasion? Nobody, that is who. Gay is being hyperbolic again.
But at least he's a hyperbolic COMPETITOR.
