no one quits running.
i don't know how many times i've heard interviews with people saying... ya know, i just had to re-evaluate, decide if this is really what i wanted to do, and when i came to the decision that yes, i do want to run, I thought I had better give it my all.
you may have a slump season or 5, but you always get out there the next morning for your run.

On what planet do you live?

He means quit competitive running, which many people do when they go through the kinds of injuries German has struggled with.
Must be hard. Endless talent, resources, coaching. I'd consider quitting too.

Yeah, also endless expectations, pressures, questions, and idiotic board speculation.

Not to mention endless injuries. That can make the whole deal suck for anyone.
Jeff Nelson breaks the 2 mile record. Burns out in college.
German Fernandez breaks 2 mile record. Thinking about quitting.
Lukas Verzbikas the 2 mile record then decides to quit running in college.
What is it about HS 2 mile record holders and quitting?
HS mile record holders have fared better.

It's that you're generalizing from a sample of three -- and there have been only two HS mile record holders in the last 45 years. The two-mile looks better if you include Gerry Lindgren (and for outdoors Pre and Virgin, but that's a stupid technicality). The 5,000m may look best of all -- Lindgren, Rupp, and Ritzenhein who just missed the record.

lets add Pre to that list (died at an early age)

Rick Riley was hampered by injury problems most of his career.

POD, in my opinion.
