probably tomorrow. entries aren't due until noon today
Any guesses how slow the 1500 will go out?
Norms guesses...
66 through 400
2:16 through 800.
And has anyone else noticed that Indiana's FIFTH best steepler has run 8:44 this season?
What the H?
Interesting that Mead and Ahmed are not running the 10k and only the 5k. Should be one heck of a race!
Mo Ahmed just ran 2&;34 closing in 13:35 I don't think anyone in the conference has a chance. Look for reed connor to outkick mead for second
How much longer is Mick going to be able to not run all his best distance guys in their best events and double them to maximize track team points?
No Cato was strange too. Do they feel tjheir sprints are too weak and throws is really just the Block guy to win?
Cato in Dec and Mo in 10k is GUARANTEED 20 pts.

I'm guessing 60, 60, 60, with Dawson and Creese going 1-2 covering the last 300 in 40 point
Cato is in the pole vault, long jump, and 110 hurdles where he will score more than 10 points. A fresh Ahmed in the 5k is probably going to win, and Wisconsin will probably go 1,2,3 even without Ahmed in a weak 10k with no Mead..

Michigan State's 4x4 is seeded at 3:35... my high school team runs faster then that....

My junior high ran that fast. But we recruited better than Michigan State.
If you saw Austin Mudd run everyone down at Payton Jordan I do not think you want to let him have too easy of a last 400. I think the were at 3:01 in his 3:40-high race, which will leave mere 40-point finishes in arrears. Add that to a couple of other 3:40s and it presents a problem for strategy.
I suspect that the steeple strategy will be easy -- IU will start at 8:40 pace and isolate their only competition. 25 points?
Mudd not running the 1500? WTF! Didn't he cruise a 3:40 a few weeks ago? No doubt he will be in the mix @ 800 as well, but is this a misprint/omission?
This article references that:
Mudd wanted to do both, but Mick made the call to hold him out.
Dont question Mick's logic he wants to make sure his guys are fresh for when it matters.
Mick deserves credit for not pushing Ahmed. The Canadian trials and Olympics are more important than doubling at Big 10's.

It's interesting that Mudd and Ahmed are not doubling. At just about any other school, the coaches would be trying to squeeze as many points out of these guys as possible. I applaud Byrne for having the hindsight and respect for his athletes to focus on the big picture.
Wouldn't that be foresight?
