My daughter ran this in a relay invitational recently, and they did it differently than I had done it when I was in high school.
It wasn't a typical relay with baton passing. They had all teams with all 4 girls line up and run the 1600. They then just added the times to determine team place. Smart and WAY less time consuming, but is that common for that race now?
Is it when it's called cross country.
The point of a track meet isn't to get it done. It's to contest the events. The problem with the 4x16 is that if there aren't that many teams or if the range of performances is big, it becomes a merry go-round during the second leg and it just becomes a run rather than a race. Running all the kids at once makes it more competitive, but it's not a relay.
