Running higher mileage year round is exactly what she needs.
I have seen many runners make a big performance leap to the next level based on running higher miles. It happened to me and many of the runners I raced against. Our improvement came because we substantially increased our mileage.
I am not saying it works for every runner but Lydiard was right in application. You didn't have to run 100 mpw but if you were like me running 36 min 10 k's on 35 mpw and 32's on 70 mpw, you knew the reason was miles.
Hasay, if she stays in the sport, will have to make a choice and that choice will have to be way more weekly mileage. Then she might break 15 minutes for 5k.

Yeah, of course. Every runner who doesn´t live up to high expectations should turn to the teaching of the almighty Lydiard, who coached scores of sub-15 female runners...oh wait...
