It'll be interesting to see if he asks any intelligent questions. Or if he'll let people call in, like he did with Roddick today.
Don't forget.
Interesting guest choice for "The Jungle."
Hopefully, some clone won't call in with "Thanks for the vine Romey. Yo, running's completely wack! Like, if I want to see some anorexics I'll watch the "Victoria's Secret Fashion Show" that I taped last night. How much sight do you need to run 'round those circles? Give me a blood and guts sport like the NFL. Yo, like, the Tampa Bay Bucs defense is sick! Sapp's the man! Blind Eagle - OUT!"
Haha ... spoken like someone who's a frequent listener!
I think Marla is great in spite of her blindness, but I was just thinking how exactly did she jump hurdles and high jump when she competed in the heptathalon way back when?
That would be Jeff on a car phone.
Jim Rome - "She didn't give the sport a black EEEYYYYEEE!"
Her blindness is degenerative and it wasn't as bad then.
Did anyone hear this? If so how was it- I couldn't listen.
It was pretty good, and Rome actually asked some intelligent questions. He did ask some stupid ones, though, like "Were you worried you would step in a pothole during the race?" Come on, Romey. He should've been run for that question. He did not take callers with her, which was good, and he treated her with respect, which I was glad to see.
War Paladins! War blind women running! War Eagle!
OUT!
I heard it and it was good. While the purpose of the interview surrounded her disability, the overall theme was that Marla is a world class athlete with a disability. The focus was on Marla the athlete first and her disability second. She was an extremely articulate and positive individual.
She really looks at her disability in a positive way. Rome asked her if she was concerned in NYC Marathon with catching her foot in a pothole and seriously injuring herself. She answered that for every mile in NYC, she had trained 100 miles and that she does not concerned herself with these thoughts. Further, he asked her if she thinks she would be a better runner if she did not have her disability. Her answer was no. She explained that in terms of her life, lacing up running shoes and running is alot easier then going elsewhere into public and having to read or fill out a form. She indicated that her disability does not inhibit her from putting in the miles.
The interview could have been a bit longer.
LOL,
just had to say that this is the funniest post I have seen on this board to date.
OUT!!!!
It is good to see so many jungle listeners.
war the fit and feel of running shorts
war pasty nutter runners
war NCAA tour stop in Terre Haute
It's not surprising that Jim Rome asked some good questions. His schtick is the trash talking So Cal UC Santa Barbara grad, but he's no dummy. There are things and people he hates - like women's soccer. One thing though, if you ever listen to him, he doesn't put up with people making fun of others for something they can't control, and he greatly respects anyone who overcame adversity. Now if you are a dumbass like "The Green Mile" (gotta listen to him to know that reference) or Patty in Modesto, then he will make fun of you until Mark Grace comes on again to explain what a slump buster is.
Jim Rome - "Gracie's 'slump buster' was the greatest thing in the history of this show until Brian Giles said this about Ramon Martinez yesterday on The Jungle. Check it out." (CUT TO TAPE - Giles speaking) "He's Pedro's brother."
Rome - "He's Pedro's brother? Man. Dude can rake it and dish it out at the same time. That was brutal. Classic."

I didn't hear it, but I'm sure Rome rushed to a commercial break so he could move on to the next segment where he read a bunch of emails commending him on the GREAT interview.
I'll admit that I find Rome entertaining...but in small doses. The CLAHSSIC shtick and EPIC smack is amusing for a while, but then you realize that his whole show is about self-congratulation. A lot of the time, a whole segment will amount to him saying "Good job by me."
Tony Kornheiser's show on ESPN radio or espnradio.com is clearly superior.
Rack me.
Tony Kornheiser uuuuuuuurrrrrrrrr Kornholer is certainly not at Romeys level.
Have a fresh take and don't suck.

Is this the guy that got his a-- kicked by Jim Everett back in the mid to early 90's on an ESPN2 talk show because he refused to call Everett by his real name......instead called him Chris(as in the female tennis player)?
Yes. Chris...errrr...Jim Everett did go ballistic on Rome...allegedly.
No alleged about it. They aired the tape on sportscenter (I'm going from memory so the quotes are off):
(men sitting across from each other, round table in middle)
Everett: "Hey Chrissie"
Jim: "Don't call me that"
Rome: "How's the season going, Chrissie?"
Everett: "I'm warning you, don't call me that again"
Rome: "Does it really bother you?... Chrissie"
(Everett jumps across table, tackling Rome, fight quickly breaks up)
They didn't finish the interview... ESPN later released a statement saying Everett overreacted and he was told before the show that Rome might call him that. I wonder how that conversation went. "Hey Jim, glad to have you. Rome is gonna ask you the following questions... oh and he might call you Chrissie."
starting the show today, he was raggin' on the "mailbox golfer" who was hanging out the car window with a "3 wood", whacked a box, but missed the "sweet spot", splintered the club, and a piece nailed his "caddie" who was sitting in the back seat ... permanently out ...
"It was the caddies fault. He handed the guy the wrong stick."

Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
