You are a coach? This is a silly comment to make.

He is coming off a 1500M race earlier in the day, he is running in a slow college race, and he won by 7 seconds. That is how. Actually the 14:15 struck me as a little more impressive than the 3:43 all things considered. But yes, I agree that this doesn't say much except its obviously better than the 3:54 he ran a couple weeks ago.

how is a 14:15 good for a 13:10 runner?
I should never be shocked by anything Alan Webb does.
This one surprised me.
I talked to Chris Lear who wrote Sub 4 for about 30 minutes this week.
For the first time ever I contemplated if Alan had lost it. In the past he was inconsistent but more year over year and a bad performance would be a 4:00 mile. Webb ran 3:54 and 1:54 just last week. Good to see him run so much better this week.
lol if youre expecting a 335 1500 after what he did last week, youre crazy.. obviously a sub 3:40 wouldve been nicer but hes gettin down there so well see.
on a second note how do people feel bout robbby andrews 1:49... not the toughest of races for him but think hell make the olympic team?

Neither are going to happen.
Craig ran 3:42/13:37 last week
Drugs.
Webb is back ????
To put things in perspective, Alistair Cragg did a 3'42''00 / 13'32 double in Stanford...
And, taking away the fact he is not American, he would have no chance of qualifying for the US on the 15 and only be an outsider for the 5k against Lagat/Rupp/Sol.
The difference is that Webb has been the class of the US before. He's not some kid cutting a few tenths off his PR, he's an old pro who could progress very quickly. If he can get the Trials standard I wouldn't count him out.
I found a video of his races http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VHAO-tyiLIk&feature=youtu.be

Craig who?
All I'm saying is Vig is a master of timing. Look for Webb to run his best at the Trials, whatever that may be.

re: Andrews
Any time an athletes wins the race you can't focus too much on the time. Btw, Robbie is a racer and has never had great TT performances; kind of like Lagat, his times are indicative of how the race went.
Looks like the video got taken down. Anybody else got any video content from these races? I'd especially like to see Robby's 800.

So you're saying that a faster time would be more encouraging? Are you, like, some kind of genius or something? Would you also say that 3:34 and 13:44 would be more encouraging than 3:35 and 13:45? How about 3:33 and 13:43?
Webb's last lap in the 5000m was a 60. So not saying that he is in sub 13 shape or anything, but the 5000m was clearly a workout and the whole meet looked like it was a workout.
And just so people are clear, yes, Webb has run 3:30 and 13:10, and these aren't times that BY THEMSELVES are to get very excited over. It's the fact that Alan has run 3:30 and 13:10 that makes people excited. Webb has been injured and is slowly getting back in shape so to see him make progress like this is exciting. However, if some random runner in the US just ran their PR's of 3:43 and 14:15, no one would get excited and say that they have a chances at the Olympic trials because those are that person's PR's at their peak shape. It's because Alan has run so much faster and has been injured that these times are great, but obviously no one is saying that the times alone are outstanding.
He'll get there though. The B standards for the trials are 1:48.30, 3:43.00, and 13:50.00. By the looks of his races, he could easily get two of those.
Seems like all these retards are forgetting that last summer Webb went from running 1:52 in the 800 to 3:36 in the 1500 in a matter of weeks. It's still only April, so even if he improves at a slower rate than last year, he should still be a factor at the trials. No one is saying these performances alone are great, they're just an encouraging sign of things to come.
I think Webb has spent more time in lane 2 than lane 1 in his track career. Still a fan, but it drives me nuts.
