Can you comment on my tentative summer base schedule?
I'm 21, never ran more than 60mpw, and my best distance (right now) is the 800, but I want to move up to the 1500/mile next year.
Here's what I've lined up:
Week one: Trying to get back into the rhythm of running after track ends (I plan on taking a week off)
Sunday: Cross train
Monday: 7 miles
Tuesday: 5 miles w/ strides
Wednesday: 7 miles
Thursday: 5 miles w/ strides
Friday: 7 miles
Saturday: 10 miles
After the adjustment week, I'd follow this schedule:
Sunday: XT
Mon: 60 minute run w/ strides
Tues: 45 minute run+ 8-10 long hill repeats
Wed: 60 minute run w/ strides
Thurs: 60 minute run
Fri: Tempo run of 4-6 miles w/ strides
Saturday: Long run of 90 minutes
I plan on doing a "down" week once every three weeks, and after about 6 weeks adding 2-3 30 minute runs to add volume.
FYI I've found that if I don't take one day off a week my body breaks down and injuries eventually come along. I'd love to run everyday if I could.
