Yeah, but would you say that literally or figuratively?

Solinsky is one of the best runners in the world, literally.
One of the best in the world? also yes.
Are you forgetting that he ran 12:55 (and two other 12:56's)later in 2010? He is easily one of the best 10k runners in the world. Solinsky > Rupp
Serious answer- he had surgery last year and if you read his twitter feed it sounds like he's still working on coming back from the surgery or having some sort of other injury problem
That is some serious surgery. Maybe CS is more on track for return to WC form in 2013 than this year. We'll find out this spring. Best of luck to a tough, talented smart guy in any case.
in 2012 there will be 3 Americans running sub-27:
Solinsky, Rupp, and Tegenkamp.

HE........IS........Solinskrap.
it's almost like you and coach d are having a contest to determine the worst poster on letsrun...
Ritz will be lining up for the 10K at the trials, and I know he has a sub-27 in him.

12:55 doesn't by itself make you one of the best in the world. Did he even win those races?

Are you serious? If you can run a 12:55 5000M, then yes, you are absolutely one of the best in the world.

He does indeed have another injury problem--
--his feelings are hurt.
SOLINSKRAP.
What is up with Chris Solinsky? Probably his weight. Hopefully he can make his 165 pound weight class.
I wasn't always a fan of Sprintgeezer (I seem to remember some issues with your assessment of top distance runners top end 100 meter speed) but I am a full convert to Sprintgeezerism.
Why Rupp gets a worse rap than Solinsky by some is beyond me. Solinsky, Solinskrap or Chris "Everett" Solinsky is now the runner I love to hate. He's like the Barry Bonds of baseball, the T.O. of football or the Tiger of golf to many. Between the multiple DNFs, the "ploy" comment, and the phantom track pushers, he has earned the nickname Solinskrap.

I think we should define our opinions. To me, "one of the best" means "top 5". MAYBE top 10. And to me, Solinsky and 12:55 (by itself) aren't top 5 material.
What is your definition of "one of the best"?

I thought he was a Badger? Sorry, I couldn't resist. Super lowsy, sorry. This is the worst thread ever. We are arguing over the definitions of words and how they apply to describing a person's running. Wow....just, wow.

He ran one sub 27 in early 2010. I think its a reasonable expectation that to be one of the best 10K runners you show up at a starting line for a 10K and run the race a little more than once in your life.
I'm not criticizing CS. He's a great runner. Just saying you take him for what he has done. Its like saying Derek Jeter is a great second baseman.
Hey. Derek Jeter is a great figurative second baseman.

Whoa totally one of the best in the world, wait, didn't Kenenisa Bekele run 12:57 in the second half of a 10k??? lol

He's finished ONE 10K!
ONE! ONE! ONE! ONE!

Well, I don't think my definition is drawn as strictly and neatly as yours, but being the 45th fastest person in the history of humanity in a particular event (and the 9th fastest in the world in a given year) rises above my own rather fuzzy qualification threshold for "one of the best."

SOLINSKRAP.
Geezer is still upset that somebody who could outlift him in the weight room would also lap him about 8 times in a 10,000m race. It's OK, Geezer, you know your place.
