I've been running now for almost 3 years, mainly in preparation for Olympic distance tris. Living in the northern part of the midwest my tri season ends in September and instead of jumping into another long off season I decided to train for the St. Louis Marathon this April. Training is going great except for a few unpleasant, however not serios, injuries that are sporadic.
I've only ever run in the Asics Gel Kayano until last Ocober when I switched to the Saucony Mirage as a transition shoe in aims to begin running in minimalist shoes. Last December I adopted the New Balance Minimus Road and have really enjoyed them. However as I said I have short sporadic pains in my legs, primarily Achilles Tendinitis in my left leg. I'm unsure as to whether it's from the shoes or the increase of training from 30-35 miles a week in the summer to currently 60-70 miles a week. I've put 500 miles on the Minimus since December 15 and part of me wonders if I've also run them too long.
Interestingly enough the Achilles Tendinitis does not bother me all day, I wear Nike Frees throughout the day. However, when I put on my NB Minimus to go for a run sometimes it immediately begins to feel tight and sore. Also, my left shoe is much more worn on the inside of the foot than my right shoe is, might this be overpronation? Can anyone offer me any advice as to what I need to be doing to avoid any further pain.
