Not really sure what to do? Tips would be appreciated!
Hi Coach ____________,
My name is __________. I am currently an 11th grader at ________ High School in City, State. I am interested in your program and would like to learn more about your team and school. My PRs in the 800, 1600, and 3200 are x:xx.xx, x:xx.xx, and xx:xx.xx, respectively. This is an improvement from my sophomore year times by approximately xx seconds/minutes. In cross country this year, I placed # in the state's Division X. This was improvement from my freshman and sophomore year finishes of xx and xx.
My current GPA is x.x, and I scored a xx on my ACT/SAT.
Please let me know if you feel my times and academics would make me a potential match for your school. I would like to get more information from you.
Sincerely,
Youngster

Step 1) Sit down at your computer.
Step 2) Press the power button to turn on your computer. If you are unsure of the location of the power button on your computer, consult your users manual.
Step 3) Wait for your computer to fully power up. Depending on the type of computer and the age of your machine, this may take anywhere between less than 30 seconds and two minutes or more.
Step 4) Decide whether you are using a web based email or an email program on your computer. If you are using a web based program, follow step 5a. If you are using an email program on your computer, follow step 5b.
Step 5a) open your web browser and navigate to your email. Log into your email account. If you have set your email to remember your password, you will be logged in automatically. If you have not selected this option, you may need to put in your user name and password. If you have forgotten your password, click the "I forgot my password" link on the log in page.
Step 5b) Open your email program from your computer's desktop.
Step 6) Click on the "new" or "compose mail" button.
Step 7) Compose an email to the coach. There is really no need to over think this. Simply tell the coach that you are interested in his or her program and list your PRs.
Step 8) When you are satisfied with the email you have composed, briefly explain the purpose of the email in the line labeled "subject" and then type the coach's email address into the line labeled "to." When you are ready, press the "send" button to send the email to the recipient that you have indicated in the "to" line.
Step 9) If you would like to compose another email, go back to step 6. If not, skip ahead to step 10.
Step 10) Close your email program or web browser.
Step 11 (optional)) If you have no further work to do on your computer, you may now shut your computer down. If you are using a Macintosh, the shutdown option may be found under the apple pull down menu. If you are using a Windows computer, you may shut down your machine by depressing the control button and the alt button while typing "delete" and then selecting "shut down" from the dialog box that appears.
Step 12) Congratulations! You have successfully sent one or more email to college coaches. Now all you have to do is wait for the responses to come rolling in. For advice on checking and responding to emails from coaches, see our step by step guide on checking and responding to emails from coaches.
Can't believe you actually took the time to write that. ^
You don't need to put your grades and stuff unless they ask. Coaches would only ask if you would need great grades to get into their school (ex. ivy league). Also, if you come from a decent hs program, mention that too. You could talk about how long you've been running and briefly (I'm talking one or two sentences here) about why you like it. Good luck!
