The Alan Webb discussion never stops does it?
I have said something similar to this before and will say it several more times before Webb gets hits by a bus and we can all finally stop arguing about him.
I do not doubt Alan's talent, he has TONS!
I do not WISH ill for Alan, I wish he was consistent and still running as fast as he could.
I do not, however, see how we are expected to have hope for him just because he has gone from top high school times to great collegiate times in a few weeks recently. The difference between Webb and the guys I can consistently cheer for (and retain hope for) is that they don't HAVE to keep coming back from high school times. Ritz battles injuries all the time; hell, the guy just took an entire year trying to get healthy, came back with a "weak" 5k effort in November, PR'd for the marathon in January.
But even his "weak" 5k was better than the sh*t Webb repeatedly comes back to the table with. This is why so many of us don't bother retaining hope. This is why he is constantly criticized. There are plenty of runners who deal with adversity and injury, none of them fall as far as Alan and, 1:52 to 3:35 notwithstanding, they show us much more consistent ability.
And stop talking about how hard he worked to run 1:43 and 3:46, right now I thoroughly believe Alan Webb is one BLESSED individual. He may have done work, but I struggle to believe it was ever that consistently hard. Maybe I'm wrong. Find me some training logs.
