SOMEBODY please throw the Captain a lifeline here....."and who speak good English." He's going down with the ship. Typical 'American'. Wanting others to master in a year or two what they can't in a lifetime.

Good god that announcer was embarrassing. Said he still had a shot with a lap to go. No, it was clear he didn't. Then after the finish, saying it was 'close'. No, it was a 4:02.
Respect to Cheserek--4:02 in January is very good. But man, that announcer.
Is Ian Brooks the "British" guy? He usually has a british accent but once in a while he slips and loses the accent. He's annoying, but then again a race happens so fast it's easy to lose what's going on.
I've heard Cheserek is a nice and respectable guy (from a fellow nj runner)and it's exciting to watch a person who is fast run a race. I would just prefer to know that he is of the right age. When I go to school, they need to make sure I am the correct age so I can compete fairly. But I digress.

I can relate to Cheserek. I like running, and he runs really quickly. Therefore, I like to watch him race. I don't need someone to look exactly like me in order to be able to appreciate their running.

You can relate to him because he runs "quickly" huh?...I bet you don't come close to a 4 minute mile...
The announcing was horrible. They blew it on this race. The announcer talked about Cheserek for like 3/4 of the race. He's a good young runner but damn he wasn't even close to the record. Props to Baddely.

I am going to have to question your ability to read. First, I was talking about "good for the sport" in relation to the average American that it may interest. You already run. You already come on letsrun. You already enjoy watching the sport. You were a fan of running before Edward Cheserek came along. The average American is/does none of the above.
Additionally, maybe you are just racist, and that is why you are so quick to pull the racist card, but multiple times (at least 2 or 3) I states that I would like for any American, black or white, to break Lukas V's record in the 2 mile. The only person who said anything about "looking similar" to anyone was you. Why people's skin color matters to you, I do not know.

I never said or implied that I wanted them to "master" English.
Let me repeat myself, from a post on page 2, (emphasis added):
Captain Tenneal wrote:
As I said before, people who can't speak good, or even basic, English
By no means would I expect them to master the language. All I was asking was for them to be able to effectively communicate while speaking in an interview.
I love Bekele, but this is an example of what will not help the sport in America:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjsDtNf5SPQThat may even be ok on the national level. But at the high school level, it will bring greater interest to the sport if they speak English well.
I honestly am astounded that people are angry with me for requesting that students who represent American high school cross country to the masses be able to effectively communicate in the language of the land.
I have visited other countries, and am currently living in a non-anglophone country, so I know that it can be difficult to learn a foreign language. I am speaking from experience, however, I am not sure how many of you all are doing the same...
Is he American? No. Therefore how can someone who isn't American and doesn't represent the USA break the AMERICAN high school record? I have no problem with him racing here as I know he came here to better his life. But having said that he shouldn't be able to hold any American records unless he's an American. Just cause he runs the times on US soil and breaks the records doesn't mean he should be a record holder. And I'd say that about any athlete who isn't an American trying to break an AMERICAN record. And I get that it's called the "national" record but our nation is the USA so American record qualifies as well and he isn't American.
