Yeah this was the biggest surprise for me. Yes, she had some good road races and halfs the past 2 years, but she has attempted the marathon a few times and has never had a performance even close to this one.

And a 7.xx minute PR.
Meb was an exciting surprise. I had him selected at #3 in the prediction contest. When he went out with the hot-pace in the beginning, I was concerned for him. I was shocked when he ended up last-man-standing. Wow!
Hanson-Brooks had 8 guys and 5 girls that finished in the Olympic trials.
That's one serious training group with depth. Did any group/club have more qualified participants/finishers?
OK. I admit it. I'm skeptical about Abdi. Mainly because I'm unaware of anything he's done in the last year or two that put him in the same league as the other front runners.
Can anybody convince me? What has he done lately? Where did this race come from? I mean - Great for him.... I guess.
Anyone who has been paying attention is not surprised by Fernando Cabada's result.
Serious props to Stephan Shay at 2:16, all things considered. I mean, think about it... :-/
She only knew for sure that she was even eligible to run the Trials last August:http://www.flotrack.org/blog/40737-Its-hard-to-comprehend-how-things-turned

Kudos to Dan Browne for finishing and not dropping out. Are there splits anywhere?

Looks like Mr. Flynn was running like a clock. Nice showing of strength. Maybe focus on some 5k,10k speed to drop to the next level.
Keith Bechtol - 2:16:02
Not really a surprise, but a nice effort.
Keith is in his last year of obtaining a Ph.D. in astrophysics from Stanford and considering a post doc from Harvard and M.I.T.
Here is some stuff I pulled off of a slide for a presentation he gave a year or two ago -
TeV detections summer 2009
– NGC 253 (H.E.S.S.)
– M82 (VERITAS)
• Fermi LAT results combined with the
TeV data will fill in spectral energy
distributions
– Discern spectral shapes with
greater certainty, constrain
emission mechanisms
• TeV observations confirm steady
sources
• Starbursts unresolved, TeV emission
predominantly in central region
• LAT all-sky survey can point out
additional candidates for TeV
observatories
