It's pretty ironic that Club Northwest stuffed the packets that resulted the scoring error which ended up benefitting them by a positive $1000. Given this, it would be especially tacky for them to keep the extra $1000 that is not rightfully theirs.

I am sure there is a rule that says that the results have to be verified and accurate. If the results were not redundantly verified, then they could not have been deemed official and accurate. It seems like this is a basic tenet of our sport, given the subjective nature - to ensure accuracy in results. This is not something they ever should have had to protest.

It's a $500 difference in prize money, not $1000. Off the top of my head, I don't think there were any of our competing open athletes involved with packet stuffing. There was a girl from our youth team who was getting community service hours, a masters athlete from Atlanta Track Club, two injured athletes from CNW, a guy from the Seattle Sports Commission, a masters athlete from CNW, I think at one point a hotel employee was helping. Maybe one or two people that I didn't recognize.
All of the chip errors I know of were off by a bib number. It would be pretty tough to purposefully misstuff the packets to benefit a particular team.
Fun theory though, keep em coming.
It's $1000 difference.
I never said it it was intentional - I said it was ironic. Though, this may have been an incorrect use of the word "ironic," it might just be a coincidence. Whatever it is, Club NW was the LOC and responsible for the successful running of the event from start to finish. They f*cked up. Not correcting the results to give credit to the accurate finishing order of the race is a wrong on so many levels.
3rd place is $2000, 4th place is $1500
Club NW is part of the LOC, but the results were all handled by RecordTiming and USATF. We have absolutely nothing to do with them being posted and whether or not things get updated on the website.
The results have already been updated to reflect the correct time for the athlete in question.
http://www.usatf.org/events/2011/USATFClubXCChampionships/results/openwomen.aspWe didn't have anything to do with the decision not to update the team scores. I'm only in the loop about it because I wanted to be able to relay accurate information to my team. If you have any questions you should contact Jim Estes or Mike Scott.
I'm not sure whether to think more or less of USATF to fix the individual's place but leave the team scores as the wrong scores to try to cover their asses. NYAC was third and the results should reflect that. They messed up and this is an instance of the rules stupidly being followed to the T even though they knew their results were wrong late in the afternoon.
While it might be ironic that Club Northwest benefits and they hosted, they did nothing wrong. Suggesting they were involved is disrespectful to them. If they do give NYAC the 3rd place prize money that NYAC earned, they should be applauded for it, but USATF should really be dishing out the extra 500 or 1000 NYAC deserves since they screwed up.
Club NW shouldn't even have to be in the position of deciding to "do the right thing." USATF just shouldn't f*ck up in the first place. You show up, run a race and and you don't have to expect to argue for your position afterwards. That's how it should be.

I'm not familiar with this one. Do we know for sure that Adams lives in the appropriate Association? Did his jersey match his teammates' jerseys?
Yes, he most certainly does live in the appropriate association (Nebraska) and his singlet did match those of his teammates.

.
The confusion/debate about prize money on this thread may stem from the fact that at the awards ceremony, the M.C. announced that 5th place was $1000, 4th place was $2000, etc. The prize money announced (verbally) at awards did not match that which was printed on the website. Certainly an "oops" but not a big one compared to the scoring issue.

Hmm now that you mention it, there was some talk of adding to the prize money at the last minute. I will confirm what the prize money amounts actually were.
The Club NW women told me that they would like the difference in prize money sent to the NYAC team, so when we get our prize money check from the National Office, we will pass along the difference between 3rd and 4th to the team who rightfully earned 3rd place.

The same thing happened to the Team Nebraska Brooks open men. Adams was 10th but not included in the team score and listed at "Team Nebraska Brooks-1" while the rest of the team was "Team Nebraska Brooks-A". Not sure what causes an error like that. They weren't in contention as a team but that would move them from 28th to 19th.
Yeah going from 28th to 19th at Club Nationals would really make a difference. I'm guessing the club president filled out the paperwork wrong. I'm putting this one on him.
