WHo wins?
WHo wins?
Michael Johnson wins.
Webb beats ritz by a hair in the 3K.
Actually Michael Johnson hasn't stepped on a track in running shoes in over a year, so Ill go with Kipketer.
weve gone over this before...
even though you will most likely never see this happen, the 600 meter distance plays more to Kipketer's advantage... Johnson would be superior in speed, but would lack the stamina and strength to carry himself through the final 200.
Besides, hasn't Johnson learned his lesson with Bailey for head to head matchups?
How about this kids: Kipketer in HIS PRIME (1.41 low) vs El G over 1000m. Giddy up.
How far do think MJ would make it before he grabbed his hamstring?
I think he made it 50 meters aginst Baily in the 150 and then 70 meters angainst Greene in the 200 Oly trials. I'd say he is good for 200m in a 600.
A friend of mine had the opportunity to work with MJ at several meets thru a sponsor one season.
The conversation went something like this:
"Will you ever race an 800?"
MJ replies "No."
"Yeah, but what do you think you could run for an 800"
MJ replies again "No."
He's a real people person.
MJ has always said that he basically runs the first 350 and then just tries not to die over the last 50 (although that's usually when it appears he makes a massive move). He has maintained that the 400m is pretty much the limit to his ability and that he wouldn't find all that much success in anything longer.
The obvious sarcasm of this thread aside, has Kipketer even ever run a hard 1000? Would have been great to see him vs. Ngeny at that distance a few years ago. I think a fit Ngeny would have beat a fit El G at that distance.
Didn't he run a 2:14 indoors? That's a world's best right?

I would hope he could beat El G over 1k since he is the current record holder(2:11). Oh yeah and back to the original, I think that MJ would take Kipketer. Good topic by the way, makes you think a bit.
I think Kipketer had the record at 1000 (2:12.xx) until Ngeny broke it (2:11.96).
No. He broke coe's 1000 record.
You're right...my bad. Kipketer does have the indoor 1000m record, 2:14.96.
If all the above individuals were fit and in their prime:
El Guerrouj vs Kipketer: winner-Kipketer
Ngeny vs Kipketer: winner-Kipketer
M. Johnson vs Kipketer: winner-Kipketer
El Guerrouj being the greatest miler, Johnson being the greatest 200/400m runner, and Kipketer the greatest 800m runner the contest would be simple at 600m or 1000m none of them would be able to challenge Kipketer! I am not a big Kipketer fan but that man is untouchable at 800m and 1000m
when HEALTHY and FIT!!!!
