I can give you that. Crested Butte Academy is a charter school, and can not compete in CHSAA events (state meet).
Either way, thats still 11 CO preps in the meet. Third amongst the 50 states. Not bad for a small state.
First off, Crested Butte Academy was, not is. The school has closed down. It was not economically viable. It did become a high school home for Daniel Roberts (not Andrew Roberts--who now runs for Adams State), Joe Bosshard, and one or two high-level females as well. Daniel Roberts never had much of a college career and is now dabbling in coaching in Colorado Springs, I believe.
Trent Sanderson was the distance running coach there while it was in existence. Tuition was something on the order of $25,000 per year. It was all about taking established talent and making elite athletes out of that talent--for those who had the money.
It was never a charter school. It was a private sports academy, plain and simple. Mostly it serviced the well-heeled skiing crowd, but tried to develop a distance running group as well.
The Colorado state association never allowed it into membership for obvious reasons. Everyone going there was already an accomplished athlete before they were ever admitted. Allowing CBA to compete against other member schools wasn't exactly going to yield anything remotely resembling a level playing field. Not in skiing, not in cross country, not in track and field.
So, Joe Bosshard and others who went there never competed in any Colorado regional or state meets. They did compete in a few in-state invitationals, but mostly traveled to big out-of-state meets.
It is correct to put Bosshard with the Wisconsin group, not the Colorado group.
