Would you camp out for nearly a week if the deal was right?
Would you camp out for nearly a week if the deal was right?
At least he has a tangible goal, unlike the Occupy movement
lol
What lagging economy?
Option 1: Spend a week camping out at Best Buy to get cheap stuff.
Option 2: Go to work and make money every day during same week. Buy stuff at normal price.
I have to imagine that option 2 would leave the guy in a better overall financial situation.
Well, it was Friday, he ain't got no job, and he ain't got sh!t to do!
Sounds like a reasonable way to spend one's time.
Wait...
What is the point of camping out this far in advance of Black Friday? Does it guarantee that he gets something? Is he allowed in the store prior to everyone else?
I mean, couldn't I roll up on like 8:00pm Thanksgiving Day and just wait right behind him?

He ain't got no job, but he has money to waste on electronics and toys? Definitely, occupying is in his blood. Perhaps you could hand him a coffee, a blanket and something to eat when you pass.

Yeah, he said he did this rather than go to the bar. That's a good choice IMO.
I don't think the only 2 options he had were bar or BestBuy sleepover.
He was recently laid off and he really needs to spend $ on a new TV?
"I'm here for the LCD Sharps that are $199 and a couple of external hard drives, and miscellaneous stuff," Keeley says.
Keeley set up his base camp outside of Best Buy on Friday, a full week before Black Friday sales markdown prices.
Keeley says spending the night on the concrete is a better way of coping with his recent layoff than his original plan.
lol
Occupy Best Buy! We all deserve new ipad 2s!
I wonder if he was "laid off" or just fired for stupidity? Anyone doing this lacks the ability for rational thinking. And, yes, OWS is in his DNA.
Best Buy ought to pay this guy money and bring him food for getting them the free advertising.
This is almost the exact opposite of OWS. If you think this is at all similar to OWS you are an exceptionally stupid person.

Most stores give out tickets to the people towards the front of the line that guarantees them the early bird items.

The fact that he said this doesn't mean that those were his only two legitimate options. If I walk into my boss's office and say "hey, I think I'm going to spend the rest of the day screwing around on Letsrun instead of taking a 2 hour nap" should I expect him to say "oh, great. I think you're making the right choice."? No. He's going to say "I don't think you should do either of those things." Likewise, the guy at BB could certainly find a much better way to spend his time than either going to the bar or camping outside of the store.
Well, let's see... I am in sales so it is easy to quantify my hourly time. In general I make about $50/hr when you average out my actual work time. So camping out for a week= about $2000 (assuming 40 hours of work time). If I can come up w/ $2000 worth of savings on items I intended to buy in the first place then it is worth it.
Maybe he had a week of vacation he had to use up before he lost it.
@ Honest Abe Babe. If you showed up Thanksgiving Day 8:00 P.M. you wouldn't be right behind him. In 2008 Best Buy had an item on sale that I really wanted. I figured I would get there 2 hours early on Black Friday. They opened up at 5:00 A.M. and I got there at 3:00 A.M. There was about 500 people already in line. When they opened up at 5:00 A.M. they only let in 200 people. When 1 person came out another person was let in. They did this for over crowding and security. There was an article in the paper the next day about this. This is what it said. The first 5 were there 3 days before. About the next 300 were there 24 hours before and the next 195 people were there about your time 8:00 P.M. Thanksgiving Day. At 8:00 P.M. you probably would have gotten into Best Buy around 8:00 or 9:00 A.M. Don't know if they would have had your item still in stock. Happy shopping.
