The protesters were making no bones about trying to disrupt businesses and traffic. It was actually a goal of theirs. They don't need to do that to speak. And if they act like this, they can expect to be pepper sprayed when they don't listen to the police. The police in portland have been way more than fair with these childish "protesters" who aren't going to help get anything done. You can keep blabbing about the 99% and all that crap, but this is indisputable--this movement has very little public support now because of their silly tactics and they are not going to have any influence on business or politics. They are wasting an opportunity.
If that's your assessment of the situation, then I'm sure you'll support the disciplinary proceedings against these police officers for assault? After all, if they expect Occupy supporters to obey the law, then the police should too, and it is against the guidelines of the police to pepper spray anyone unless they pose a PHYSICAL threat to the police or others.
As you admit that the protesters were only disrupting businesses and traffic, you will also have to admit that they weren't threatening or using violence against the police or others. Therefore, unless you want to be seen as a hypocritical coward, we can expect your support when the time to punish these lawbreaking stormtroopers comes around?
BTW, can you tell me what sort of physical threat an 84-year-old woman would pose to the police?
