Wasn't she a journalism major at U of O? Find the awful grammar in her article.

I agree about the grammar problems.
"She told me that’s why I peaked his interest right away."
Doesn't she mean piqued his interest??
"Her and Art Kranick have coached at Saratoga since 1985."
This should be She and Art Kranick have coached....
Not only a journalism major at Oregon, but earned Pac-10 All-Academic honors! Does anyone really think she would have qualified for All-Academic honors at Stanford, an Ivy, Notre Dame, Duke, etc?
I know a female athlete that was a poor high school student with even worse SAT scores. Even though she was a very good runner, many top schools took a pass. However, she ended up at an SEC school, earned All-Academic honors and was even named the SEC student athlete of the year. Talk about a joke.
Great story. Thanks for the link.

Have you read Ryan Hall's writings? Or the Brojos who went to Yale? Or Obama, who has run America into the ground and supposedly went to Columbia and Harvard? The dumbing down of the America is everywhere, on every level. Really, what does a degree from a Ivy mean anymore, other than you were a fool to pay many times more for the same product.

Where to begin?

May I ask you to start with the fact that he asked a question and ended it with a period.
I don't know the answer, but was Ryan Hall or the Brojos on All Academic teams? If not, then what does your argument have to with what I wrote. My point was it doesn't take much to make the All-Academic team at poor academic universities.
The fact that Obama attended elite schools has several explanations. Since he has never released his grades and test scores, we don't know whether he was a top student. However, the fact is it is much easier for an African American student to gain acceptance into elite schools. Only 2.7% of African American students who take the SAT score at least 1200, compared to 21.5% of white students. Therefore, if you are a decent African American student, the elite schools beg you to come to increase their diversity numbers.
Look up the average salary of graduates. I think you will find that overall your argument is inaccurate. On average, students who graduate from top schools earn considerably more than those who graduate from lower tier schools. If you look at the top 20 schools in terms of what their graduates earn, the list includes Yale, Princeton, Harvard, Dartmouth, Penn, as well as schools such as Stanford, Duke, Notre Dame, Georgetown, MIT, Carnegie Mellon, etc. Don't fool yourself. While these schools may be expensive, the return on investment is often worth the cost.

How about that, a functional illiterate bitching about Obama and poor grammar at the same time. And on Letsrun, a bastion of liberal ideas!
Just shut your mouth until you learn to read and write at a sixth-grade level. Failing that, stick to the topic. Idiot.
What's with the hate for Oregon? Did Vin not want you to bring your 4:30 talents out to Eugene?

You must be new here. Welcome!
"The Kranick's from an insider's perspective"
Hey, Nicole, don't leave us in suspense: "The Kranick's what from an insider's perspective."
And which one is "the" Kranick, anyway?
Didn't Nicole leave the program to run unattached? I may be wrong it could have been someone else.
She talks as if she loved running for Toga.
Where was I "bitching" about President Obama? It is a fact that it is much easier for an African American student to gain admittance into an elite university than either a white or Asian student. How is that bitching? The statistics speak for themselves. From the 2010 census, African Americans make up 12.6% of the population versus 72.4% white. Therefore, 2.7% of American Americans who compose 12.6% of the population scored at least a 1200 SAT. On the other hand, 21.5% of whites that make up 72.4% of the population scored at least 1200. I don't find it surprising that the "2.7%" draws a lot of attention from elite universities.
If you disagree, fine. However, resorting to name calling instead addressing what issue you disagree with isn't productive.
Obama was also president of Harvard Law Review, which has nothing to do with affirmative action. For that matter his writing is actually pretty good, again as you'd expect from a law student and president of Harvard Law Review.
Also I was really bothered by the first sentence in this article. I can understand the occasional typo in a blog post, but in the first sentence? Come on, at least read over your work.
I think in the comments to the story she explains that there was mutual stubbornness, and she was a kid. They've buried the hatchet now.
It's true -- Americans suck nuts at writing. I go to one of the best journalism schools in the country but major in creative writing (impractical, I know), where I tutor people in academic and professional writing. You'd all (hopefully) be appalled by the basic grammar and usage errors I have to continually explain to students here who are on FULL RIDES for journalism and communications-related majors. Absolutely pathetic.
All of you who think grammar is an indication of one's intellect must lead a very sad life...
