Background never ran fast in high school best 5k 18:12 low mileage until senior year. Senior Year mileage at 50-60 during the winter phase. Come spring track senior year 4:55 1600m and 10:30 3200m. Now i am at a DI college where i walked on the team. Ran an 8k best so far of 30:54 Training here is something like this Monday 8 Tuesday workout 5-6 miles worth Wednesday easy 8 Thursday workout 4-6 Friday easy 8-10 Saturday long run 13-15 Sunday off due to coach having us in need of rest day. brings my mileage to around 50 miles per week. I tried to run more mileage, but he said that he does not want me to run more because he thinks I cannot handle the build up. I wanted someone's opinion on this. If i do more I will have a bigger base, and perhaps run faster times, on the other hand maybe i will be alright with this type of training. My goals for this coming spring are to run a 2:02 800m 4:30 mile, and a 16:xx 5k which I think I have the potential to do provided I put in the work and mileage. So can someone tell me what i need to do if I want to reach this goal? Increase the mileage, or listen and wait?
