I'm female, and I was never elite but a good bit faster than I am now.
However, I still race, do interval workouts, and also train with a masters' swim group. (I notice a hamstring problem has calmed down a lot since I got back to the swimming.)
I think this stuff gives me energy. It puts me in touch with interesting people, gives me great cardiovascular health (resting heart in 30s, bp--typically about 100/60). Have a great chiro guy without whom I wouldn't be running.
And when I am sore, at least I have an excuse. ;)
Also, yes, I drink beer and enjoy food.
And there are more of us than you might think.
