5th place, 3rd on your team, -27 secs off winner in a local invite doesn't bode well for winning NCAAs. Now, I know people are going to say he's letting his teamates win, just as they said the same thing last year, and the year before, only to see the same pattern continue into NCAAs.
Well not bad pace he is running, if he stays injury free he can get back
It's not about how fast you run in early October.
Looks like a strong result to me. Lets just hope he can put 2+ seasons of training behind him without an injury.
My question is when is he going to start dominating?

GF will be fine. However, if cowboys can't find a 5th man, they will not repeat. Were they holding someone out?
My question is when will he axctually race as opposed to these tempo runs with teammates. This is why when he gets into a genuine race (no rabbits, in less than ideal conditions, etc) he freaks out.
Yeah, where was Girma?
Dave Smith VERY CLEARLY says that German isn't in great shape because of all of the time he took off. You can't expect him to start running and win NCAAs week one. If you do expect that then I feel very sorry for your kids (if you ever have any).
they were holding out their top guy from last season. their 5th runners finished 29th at NCAAs last season and ran sub 13:26 on the track.
My concern would be more in line with how long will it be till he has his next injury, or will he run ok and then lose a shoe or fall down in a bigger race. Sorry, buts that has been the trend for too long to ignore any longer.
Don't expect great things from him this fall. Smith will be happy getting a non-injured, semi fit German to the starting line at Ncaas, that is all he needs.
German will be around top 10 if healthy which helps the team win another title.

Easier said then done. German will be injured again. And again many more times in his career. Its a part of the sport.
Funny how Dave says 'we want to run 5-minute pace comfortably,' then they go out in 2:50/4:45ish...Just call it what it is, dude. Tired of these stupid interviews where coaches and athletes try to downplay races with stupid comments like "we haven't even done any 'speedwork' yet!" or "I was just running relaxed, tempoing it, really." Shut up.
lol. fernandez looked pretty smooth though.
