Anyone know the rules about high school age kids running in college open races? If any kid races in college meets before they actually attend or enroll in college, would it effect their eligibility later when they are ready to attend?

pretty sure it wont, as long as theyre entered as unattached, havent been invited by a college coach or anything and have paid entry fee themselves or through their highschool. theres a reason its an open race, so that highschool kids can run in them. i think you might also have to use a different uniform then your current one but dont quote me on that
The NCAA changed the rule a few years ago, and prospective student-athletes can no longer compete in collegiate meets.
Then how did Cheserek run a 14:02 in a college meet?
The NCAA rule is that high school students are not allowed to compete in NCAA events. This does not prohibit high school only events (as they have at Mt Sac) in college meets or separate high school meets on the same day as university meets (as they have at Albuquerque indoors).
All NCAA meets these days have a flat prohibition against high school athletes competing in NCAA meets (except for specific high school-only competition as mentioned above).
I don't believe that there is an NCAA sanction against the athlete for violating the rule; The sanction would go against the institution if caught. This is different from someone taking prize money in a race, who would be required to pay back the proceeds before being allowed to compete in NCAA competitions.
Then how was this legal:

Didn't Gunnar Nixon get his 8000+ in a college meet also?
Gunnar Nixon got his record in the Great Southwest high school meet in Albuquerque. There may be some institutions either not following the rule or, more likely, not checking entries closely. The NCAA institutions I am familiar with are indeed not allowing high school athletes to compete in NCAA events. I know of a number of NCAA schools, including BYU, Arkansas, TAMU, and I believe Virginia Tech that have entirely separate high school competitions.
Can someone give the exact rule and reference number on this. I see high school kids who run college meets all the time. I don't care about the colleges but would like to confirm the kids won't be sanctioned.

I am not certain that his is right. We have high school students competing unattached at indoor college meets and I have been assured that it is OK. Now, that might have been long enough ago that a rule change has occurred, but I think we are talking about winter a bit less than two years ago.
How would this rule apply to home school students who don't attend public or private schools.
