The 13-14 year old running scene that people should pay attention to is that every year, usually in a boy & girl's freshman year in gym, some Phys Ed clown puts a watch on kids running a mile in gym class. Most times are pathetic by competive running standards, but here and there some good athletes with swimming, soccer or other athletic backgrounds will post a low, 5:XX time without much effort. That too will go unoticed because it is not a school record or that meaningful to the Phys Ed clown unless he is also the XC coach. That would be interesting, to actually see what natural talent is out there in the freshman class waiting to be tapped during another season when that naturally gifted athlete is not playing soccer, football, basketball, baseball or some other mainstream sport which is not distance running.
The track rankings here are pretty definitive for that age group.
