Your first name wouldn't happen to be Galen?
I think a lot of you are still overlooking the fact that he is giving up his spot so his less experienced, fully capable(He has the A standard) teammate/friend can get a shot to compete at worlds. Sure you can bash him for everything that has gone on leading up to this, but I find it incredibly hard to bash him on this decision.
I think a lot of you would be singing a different tune if Solinksy went to worlds anyway, put up a completely lackluster performance(due to injury), and left a completely healthy athlete with the A-standard at home(Bumbalough). IMHO, that would be kind of a jerk thing to do.
We want to send the best team to Worlds we can, right? If Solinksy truly is injured as bad as he claims, sending Bumbalough(4th at USAs, has the A-Standard) is the right thing to do!
healthy Bumbalough > bum hamstring Solinksy

REALLY?? YOUR SELF PROCLAIMED "FINAL POST", was like 44 more posts and TWO F"ING DAYS AGO!!!!
Geezer, I'd say that's compelling evidence YOU'RE on PEDS, DUDE. No normal individual is that obsessed.
Rumor has it:
CS beat Geezer's ass, like, 8 times in a row in HS and he's been in love with the wisco badger ever since. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

No doubt. Remember when an injured Ritz decided to hobble his way through the Olympic 10K? That was an embarrassment. Unless it was a circumstance that no one else had an A standard, but I don't think that was the case.

I pretty sure Ritz was one of the only ones with the A standard. The A/B rules were different then. I think he just had to finish to make the team, unless someone else miraculously got the A in the race. So he hobbled around the track in 31:13 on a broken foot. Then he went to Athens and he started. DNFed but he gave it everything. He knew might never get a chance to be an Olympian again.
I guess it makes a small difference that he wasn't taking anybody's spot.
Sure, Bumabalough has the A and he's young, but he's not going to be that competitive. 13:16 will get him dropped pretty quick. Who knows, he might take advantage of it and pop off a good time (for 10th in his heat).
That make more sense if no one else could have taken his place.
Fortunately he did run another Olympics, and top 10 in the marathon was not bad at all. Still have hopes for him and Sol in '12.
Fair point. Maybe it is as simple as Solinsky isn't 100% and Bumbalough is kicking his butt in workouts. That would actually make some sense.
This.
I would love to hear Sprint Geezers response to this. This point alone, in my mind at least, totally explains Solinsky's withdrawal.
"...the fact that he is giving up his spot so his less experienced, fully capable...teammate/friend can get a shot to compete at worlds."
This is not, I repeat not, a fact.
That's not WHY he is giving up his spot, it is a byproduct of WHY he is giving up his spot.
He is giving up his spot, if he is to be believed about his injury status, because he does not believe that he will perform to a level with which he personally is comfortable, without risking further injury.
Since I've already assailed that logic and nobody including the mods wants to hear it again, I will spare you.
Your so-called "fact" is not a fact at all--your alleged "cause" is actually an "effect".
"We want to send the best team to Worlds we can, right?"
Yes, and that is a decision to be made by team management, on the information provided by the athletes, among other things. Given the events of late, Solinsky should be removed from the team whether he wants to go or not. He hasn't demonstrated the attitude required to compete.
Yes, the best team should be sent, and it will be sent--a team that does not include Solinsky.
Sprint Geezer, just stop posting on this thread. Your views and opinions are not welcomed here because they are meaningless and quite annoying. Stop trolling and go for a run.
I would love to stop posting on this thread if yours was the universal desire--but it is not, as evidenced by the poster to whom I responded.
I'm not making any more posts of my own volition, however--just responses.
In a similar vein, if you look back through this thread and other, related threads, you will find that praise for Solinsky is also not universal.
Your post was quite presumptive, don't you think?
yes, please do. he is more annoying than Exp[430miler].

I understand the point you're trying to prove. What I am trying to say is that I believe giving Bumbalough a chance to compete at worlds played heavily into Solinksy's decision. I believe that if there was not another athlete in line with the A standard that Solinksy would have decided to still go to worlds. I don't think he would go blow out his hamstring trying to win, but I think he would represent our country and actually run at a pace that wouldn't risk injury.
Yes he is injured. Yes it is the main reason he is giving up his spot. But I think that knowing Bumbalough was standing by to take his place also contributed into his decision to give up his spot.
You may not agree with me, that is fine.
Sure, it was... but your posts have been quite inaccurate. Just give up Geezer, you won't win this argument or any other you come across on this thread. Do yourself and everyone else on here and stop posting (yes, I am being presumptuous and I really don't care).
I am not contradicting myself, as you were not the poster.
I was not initiating a post unilaterally, but responding to Doctor Watts instead.
And my posts have been exactly accurate--I even accounted for the possibility of him actually being seriously injured (coach should pull him out), or of him being merely aggravated (should start the race).
And "No basis"?
Solinsky's either a wimp and wanker, or dirty. Take your pick.
