Sad.
Sad.
We'll give you those splits if we get the chance.
He lost me when he started talking about how many quarts of blood the heart pumps. Plus, since when do marathoners run at 90% MaxHR the whole race?
to be fair, he said 90% for the last 6 or 8 miles
we are going to try to get splits for you...
4 laps later
we are trying to get splits...
I'm disappointed. Just one time, I wanted him to say, "Go on down to your local track . . ."

Yeah. That's when I hit the mute button. I hadn't heard a single split up to that point, so the finishing time was a complete surprise to me.
I'm sure there's never been a combination of the worst race/worst announcer in USATF history!!! A bunch of pussy ass, LAZY ass U.S. runners friggin' jogging!! Literally out for a tempo run, while some dumb ass announcer rambles on about God knows what!!!???
Larry Rawson ruins the sport I love. Seriously, I am a huge track fan. I run. I coach. I'm invested in this sport. He was terrible tonight. Just terrible.
Without a doubt, he (and the NBC track announcers) are a major part of why our sport is not popular in the US.
The announcer at our state meet is 1,000 times better than Rawson. Man, I hate him.
If larry never wanted to commentate another track meet, I'd be ok with that.
I really like the commentary from the other guy. He knew exactly when it was on. Rawson was better than usual and there wasn't much to get excited about until the last 7 laps. I guess you have to cut him a break. He has to keep talking almost non-stop for 29 minutes and that race was a dog until 3 laps to go.
I particularly enjoyed when he compared to the amount of blood being pumped through your heart to a can of beer?!?! What?!?!
LOL

how do they not have the technology to put a clock on the screen? why does the feed look like they are filming a tv? why are there no microphones in the stadium? Why do they keep breathing into the mics? Why were they playing the PA feed on top of the runnerspace announcers for 20 minutes? why did they show the start list for the first 200m of one of the womens 1500? why was there a female non-contributor on mic sporadically?
Can we sign some sort of petition to get rid of Larry Rawson? Do the people at ESPN really not care at all?
You have to tailor your commentary to the people watching the race. If you are someone that will sit at your computer and watch a live internet feed of the 10k at the US champs, you just want an announcer who is enthusiastic and will give you the vital details about the race. Rawson is neither enthusiastic nor gives any worthwhile information about what we're watching.
Why doesn't Larry Rawson, just have a stop watch as part of his contract??? TOO EASY!!
"The race will be over in about 8 minutes".
Where is Ed Eyestone?
hands down best quote: "teg came very close to getting a bronze medal in the 2007 world championships trying to nail a guy from behind. he only missed by 1/100th of a second!" please tell me someone else heard that one.
My favorites:
"Kara Goucher from the state of Colorado. Wait, she was born in New York, moved to Michigan I believe, and then went to the University of Colorado."
"Matt Tegenkamp in the red hair."
"These guys will run 4:10 for the last mile guaranteed. If they start now"
