So went into urgent care after 2 hour cardio session last Sunday and doctors said my heart was fine. Saturday, 2 days ago, while sitting down I suddenly became flush, clammy, jaw went slack, and breathless. Called an RN friend who said go to the hospital immediately.
Off to ER and the EKG said my heart was fine. They kept me 48 hours, more or less, for observation and checked my enzymes which were negative for a heart attack. Blood pressure upon admittance was 164/80ish and quickly fell to normal 110/90. Pulse during observation went down to 47 at rest.
Had a cardiac stress test this morning and passed with flying colors. Stress test, puhleeze! Absolutely nothing of note from radiology. Oh chest and head CAT scans negative too. The docs said go for a run today if I wanted, in fact they encouraged it, and told me not to worry since the worry alone could produce an anxiety attack and the symptoms would appear almost like a cardiac episode. Confused about when to worry? I know I am.
They gave me albuterol and suggested pulmonary testing and a sleep study for nighttime apnea. okay...otherwise, the docs say I am absolutely fine, I will not die, but I might have be having a vasovagal response tied to acid reflux which produces similar symptoms like the 'feeling of imminent death' (but once they ruled out a cardiac source they didn't really talk much about the vasovagal idea. Great. Docs say if I pass out I will wake up so don't worry, don't run in isolated places, and tell people where I'm going, all good advice, but not a medical answer. Oh, also, sage advice: use common sense about not banging my head if I do fall. That could kill me. Double great. Can't wait to be billed 5 grand for the comedy show of my life!
Anyway it gets better, and this is the reason I'm posting, so I meet my girl after being released today, have a little frisky business in the shower, and all of the sudden my breath gets shallow, I get dizzy, clammy, all the rest. She's freaked. I'm freaked. I really don't want to go back to ER hours after leaving it. I have her go home and I call 911 around the corner, away from the family so I can see the paramedics out of sight. They chuckle about the sex but not me. I show them my paperwork with test results (I happen to have it on me) and they said it looked like I could go for a run. What on earth can possibly be going on? I presume this is blood pressure related but if my heart is AOK, what's the deal. Feeling like you're going to die takes away the hots and heavies of getting down with your girl. WTF! Any ideas?
