So you're saying that the camera wasn't turning?

THose screenshots are worthless, malmo and others who think Hassan is not at fault. The pack hits the turn, and while most of the runners begin to run the curve, Hassan continues to run straight, going in front of Foster, who has begun to run the curve. The screenshot of Foster's foot on the line looks that way because he is on a turn, so the line is behind his foot, and so his foot is blocking the line, making it seem like he is stepping ON the line. Hassan simply DID NOT RUN THE CURVE, trying to go straight and get out of the box he was in, and thus impeded Foster, causing the fall.
Wrong call by the officials.
In a tight pack like that, I don't know how you can DQ someone when legs get tangled up. I've never understood how the officials determine who gets to automatically advance when they trip, either. I say just let the race continue, tough cookies if you fall during the race. Get back up.
It's incredibly simple. Hassan tries to cut out with no room to do so. He causes the collision. Watch the video.
This clearly looks like the lead runner of the collision moved out and slowed a bit to get around someone in front of him while the person on his outside and slightly behind him maintained his line and his pace.
Foster was cutoff. Hassan was boxed and moved without a clear path causing himself to be clipped from behind.
He should not have been advanced.
Should have been a no call and bad luck for all of them involved.
I certainly see no fault with Foster holding his line on the straight and angling in on the curve to maintain position while running the shortest distance.
Great post. Exactly correct. Abdi is CLEARLY at fault.
Waah...waaah...somebody touched me in a race. Run it again! Somebody needs toughen up.

.
This is absolutely ridiculous. You're just making crap up that didn't happen.
You have stride-by-stride screenshots. It is not some sort of an optical illusion. His foot is on the line, in fact, his heel is inside the line. Every runner in the field except for Foster held their line. Foster clearly moved inside. When he did he clipped Hassans leg sending him sprawling to the track and causing a chain reaction. Hassan is zero percent at fault. Foster is 100% at fault.
The only other runner who didn't hold his line was the Kansas kid, who moved wide to pass.
IT'S RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF YOUR EYES! Open them.

And Hassan's foot "moved" into lane two why?
Watching Hassan coming down the homestretch reminded me of watching The Exorcist.
Ryan was perfectly positioned with a lap to go, Hassan wasn't. He knew damn well he wasn't and he better do something about it, and quick, as the bell was ringing loudly.
If there's one thing we have all learned over the years of reading LetsRun it's that Malmo is never wrong.
Never question, disagree or share an opinion that differs with the Hobbit behind the curtain or you shall be deemed "NUTS".
I can't wait to hear the Hobbit's opinion after the 800 final tonight. If Cas runs well the Hobbit will suggest that he simply picked low hanging fruit. If he doesn't have his best race the Hobbit will blast him for being emotionless and robot like.
I for one have been proud of how PSU has revived the mid distance group over the last 4-5 years. Ryan Foster has been the clear leader of the revival and should be damn proud of all he has done for the program. Congrats Ryan on an outstanding collegiate career and best of luck in your future efforts.
Best of luck to Cas tonight, I'll be cheering for you all the way through the line!
You can draw straight lines on a curve all you want Malmo, but it's clear as day that Hassan moves out in front of Foster in an attempt to get himself out of a box before the kick starts. Foster was simply holding his position, like anyone who has ever run a tactical race should do (I hope to God you'd tell any kid you coach to do the same). if you are going to let someone take your position in a race with 400 to go, you might as well not start the race in the first place.
I've been in that exact same spot as Hassan was with 400 to go and you do take your chances and try extricate yourself out of the box as best you can. 9 times out of 10, you do it by pushing your way out and crossing your fingers that you don't take anyone down in the process. Hassan tried, but in this case he failed....end of story.
I'm sure if Letsrun put it to the vote, 80% of people would agree that Fotser should not have been DQed.
It's pretty typical of you to take the side of the nameless somalian import from Arizona with no championship credentials over a seasoned championship runner FROM YOUR ALMA MATER.
It's really sad that you have nothing left to do in your life besides bash the people who are supposed to be the next generation of a program you helped to create.
I won't even get into the fact that the overwhelming majority on this thread doesn't agree with you, but just the plain and simple truth that you have nothing positive to say about the current Penn State team unless it's something you "called" shows that you're nothing more than bitter. Especially since PSU has such a strong team alumni following, never seen you involved in that once. What? Didn't get the invitation to the Alumni Golf tourney with Harry Groves this year? Taking it out on Foster on letsrun make you feel better? How about the fact that his career is now ending with a DQ and with him goes a chapter in your schools track and field history and you can do nothing but defend the two people who got advanced (one of which didn't have the balls to finish the race) who both have multiple NCAA years left for another shot.

Game over, child.
Foster moves in, as soon as he steps on the lane line with his right foot his left leg clips Hassan causing him to fall.

Malmo do you realize that because of the turn, and the angle of the camera the lines you drew mean nothing? Hassan clearly moved out if you watch it in slow motion. Your wrong malmo, just admit it.

Unbelievable. Hassan did not move out. He was tripped by Foster who clearly moved IN on him.
Why don't you go through each image and tell me when exactly did Hassan move out? He didn't. On the other hand, with each step Foster moved closer and closer to the line, until he finally stepped on the line - with is RIGHT FOOT. Once he did that his left leg clipped Hassan causing him to trip.
I've downloaded the video. I've watched it frame by fram. I'd taken screen shots of each step that clearly shows Foster moving INWARDS. Yet you sit there and pretend the video evidence is a lie?
Here is the moment of contact. Foster's right foot is clearly right on the line, which means that he had moved inwards about 8 inches in 5 steps.

You're freaking nuts. I'm supposed to be taking "sides" against Foster? For what? I am not bashing Foster nor have I any reason to be "bitter". He was clearly at fault in this collision. The video record shows he was at a fault.
He got DQ'd becasue he deserved to be DQ'd. The two runners who advanced were the victims here.
There's something really disturbing about you.

I watched it in slower motion - frame by frame. Hassan did not move out. He was tripped by Foster. The field judges saw exactly the same thing. Are they "bitter"? Do they "hate" Foster?
The only person who sees what you're seeing is you. You're absolutely delusional and clearly have some unresolved issues with the PSU team.
What I can see is Foster clipping the right leg of Hassan as he's moving outwards. In fact had that contact been made with no outside movement chances are both stay up. Hassan is clearly moving out and his left foot shows this by a huge margin. It wasn't the contact that moved him this far right Malmo.
PS: Not going to answer to any of your detractors? Nothing to say when it comes to criticism about yourself.
"Nameless somalian import"
That about sums up where you (and many others) are coming from. You played yourself.
that inward movement was the normal reaction start of the curve- everything tightens up people hug the curves, and it wasn't going to impede Hassan until he made a huge move out that he didn't have the space to make, do you not see how twitchy that decision was?
I'll tell you what. Quit posting under five different names, and quit trying to blame me for Foster self-destructing.
1) Go to Flotrack and download the video. It's five lousy dollars.
http://www.flotrack.org/videodownload/signup
2) Go and download windows live movie maker and watch the video frame by frame. It's free.
http://explore.live.com/windows-live-movie-maker?os=other
Then come back and tell me that Foster didn't cause the collision.
Have fun.
