Here's a thought: Where would Andrew Wheating finish if he had another year of eligibility? Where would Nick Symmonds?
Our collegiate runners have simply passed up our Salazar-trained professionals this year. All that excessive Salazar mileage, and neither Wheating or Symmonds is competitive any more. Watching the video from Pre, Wheating's kick didn't gain on a single runner. About the only person he passed was the fast-fading Symmonds. Salazar killed their speed.
Meanwhile, the collegiate kids rock. If Primm, Martin, Andrews, Greer, Loxsom, and Jock all make it to the finals, it will be harder to pick than the Kentucky Derby.
Gun to my head, I have to go with the kick and competitive spirit of Andrews. As for Wheating and Symmonds, I don't think Symmonds would get out of the heats, and Wheating would finish fifth, behind Andrews, Martin, Primm, and Greer.
