Need some advice. Been trolling on the forum for a while but find the advice on this forum to be the best on the web.
I am 34 yr M, running solidly for 9 yrs and training for Chicago this fall sub 3:05. 5'8" and 165 lbs and dropping weight quickly. Ran PR in 5K and 10K this past spring as well (19:35 & 40:37). Avg mileage 60-65 mpw, 50 on off-week. I've done 75+ mpw for training cycles but have broken down after that point. Doing 1 or 2 doubles a week is possible, but I feel my sweet spot is 60-65.
At the beginning of the year, I was shooting to beat my previous PR (3:10). This spring's training went so well when I PR'd (and felt I could have done better) that I'm debating on whether I can sub 3:00 in time for Chicago Marathon this fall (it'll be my third time running that marathon, so I am familiar with the course).
Right now, I feel quietly confident I can race faster than my PR of 3:10. My training paces have me on tap for 3:06-3:08. Is it possible to adjust metrics down to sub-3:00 in the remaining 4 months? Is this enough time for me or should I just training to do 3:05 and then wait until Fall 2012 to try the Sub-3? I am just wondering what effect age has for us in the mid-30s.
Any advice would be great.
