Nelson didn't just crush Breitbach, he ran 40 seconds faster than all the North Central and Calvin guys in the other race. That's pretty sick.
Of course it definitely is a little early to be throwing down that type of race. Wouldn't be surprised to see Nelson do something like Heymann has often done (last year Heymann ran 24:20 in slow conditions last year at Paul Short, beating eventual champ Hulleberg by 40+ seconds, but then got something like 6th at nationals), but its an impressive performance nonetheless and if he holds on to that fitness he could very well be the favorite in November.
Teamwise NC had a nice 1-4 pack up front, with solid depth beyond that as usual. Hard to say exactly how good that pack is, but if those four are all top 20 types they could be tough to beat.
Haverford was a little more spread out at Paul Short, but Schillit looks to be a really strong front runner, and they also have pretty good depth, which always makes a difference come nationals.
Without Kramer, Calvin's chances at a win are looking pretty slim. It's too bad, because I think with him it could be a great three way battle for the championship, but as it is it could shape up to be an exciting dual between North Central and Haverford at Nationals. The Invite at Oshkosh in two weeks should give us a better sense of just how good NC is, though with Haverford we just might have to wait until nationals cus they won't face all that much D3 competition until then.
