Week 224
*************************
Salutations, 50+ers! Another week not structured the way I would recommend. Managed nearly 39 miles on 5 days, but it was pretty heavy on the back end. Log reads as such:
Sun: none.
Mon: 4.1 hard (6:46 avg. pace)
Tue: none.
Wed: 5.2 hard (6:54 avg. pace)
Thur: 6.1 easy (7:56 pace)
Fri: 8.4 easy (7:42 fairly steady pace)
Sat: 15.1 easy (7:46 steady pace)
We got caught up in traffic coming back from Gatlinburg and stopped for a late lunch; by the time we got home, club run had already gone, and quite frankly I was a bit road-weary, so I skipped Sunday. The extended weekend also left me woefully behind in my grading, so Monday was busy. I quickly stepped out to get an evening run before it got dark; mostly the 2nd and 3rd miles were hard (6:31, 6:15). Another busy catch-up day Tuesday and an old college friend in town meant Tuesday Track was a bust, so again life got in the way of running. Wednesday was a lot like Monday, I dashed out to get a run in late, and once again, the 2nd and 3rd miles were hard (6:46, 6:11); I think I was mentally trying to compensate a bit for missing the track workout. The rest of the week was just logging easy miles. I'm glad that 7:40 to 7:50 is feeling fairly smooth and easy these days.
One side note: we stopped at the outlet mall in Sevierville, TN on the way home last Sunday (another reason we were late), and I stopped in the Nike Store just to see if I could snag any deals. Picked up a pair of Pegasus+ 30 shoes for $39. I'd mostly stopped running in Nike shoes because the heal-cup always struck my Achilles funny and would leave me a bit sore, so I was pleasantly surprised to see that the heal-cup was a lot lower in these. Took them for a test run on Friday and now I see why so many people like them for their long runs!
@edsc, thanks for chiming in. Sounds like you've been through the wringer!
@elviejo, welcome! You sound a lot like me, except I haven't seen 50 mpw in a long while.
OK. I don't have much else. I really did get quite behind this week and am still playing catch-up. I'm trying to decide what to do this fall, do I jump into a HM that the club is going to? Or stick to 5k's (I wish there were more 10's around.) Hope you all are doing well, and I look forward, as always, to reading about your week no matter where you are in your training/rehab cycle.
All the Best!
